Ignoring the haters for a moment… Where is the ACC coverage of this debacle? Although a Republican, I am extremely disturbed by this story. Irrespective of policies or positions, Jeff Smith presented himself as a young, vigorous, virtuous candidate seeking to serve the public, exactly the kind of person we should be looking for in public life. Was this an isolated incident, the result of an overheated primary battle and the presence of Mr. Ohlsen, a true whack job? Or, does it say something more fundamentally disturbing about our political process? I can see a VERY disturbing trend that links through many recent young politicos: Nathan Cooper, Steve Earp, now Jeff Smith and Steve Brown. Are these isolated incidents? Or, is this representative of a larger problem? And please, no more "all politicians are corrupt" crap, OK. If that is your view of the American political process one wonders why you bother to read a website such as this one.
I agree with this post and would like to see some sort of coverage on this story here at the ACC- even if its guest coverage.
Not surprisingly, nothing was posted on Jeff Smith and his guilty plea. This site is a joke. Hopefully we fix this mistake by electing the man who should be representing us anyway, Derio Gambaro. Let's just hope the committee people don't try to pull one over on use like did with Michelle Kratky's appointment. We deserve better.
Derio is the man that should be representing you? Under which system of reasoning do you reach that conclusion, because it certainly isn't mathmatics?
Jeff Smith - 6,770 - 36.4%
Yaphett El Amin - 4,631 - 24.9%
Derio Gambaro - 4,274 - 23.0%
Amber Boykins - 2,,364 - 12.7%
Kenneth Jones - 559 - 3.0%

(Side note: I too would have liked to see a post or two from this site on the subject of the Smith situation, if for no other reason that to hear from the usual commenters who would have been able to provide MUCH better reactions and insight to me (now an outsider) than the vile, hateful commenters from the STLToday site.)
