Maida Gets Mad

From her website, mayoral candidate Maida Coleman has written in her campaign blog: There have been inflammatory verbal threats made directly to my son by Brian Wahby (Chair of the St. Louis Democratic Central Committee), stating that he had bullets and guns ready to "take me down." as well as a window of my car being smashed.

It is not known whether Coleman is alleging that Wahby is responsible for the car window damage but, clearly, she has articulated a belief that she has been threatened with weapons by him. Coleman issued the statement in response to growing criticism of the language she used in her interview with the St. Louis American inwhich she said, "I am tired of the Democrats raping us for our votes.”

Coleman's love-hate relationship with the Democratic Party is very recent. She was Democratic Minority Floor Leader in the Missouri Senate while 5th Dist. State Senator; 7th Ward Democratic Committeewoman; a pledged elected official delegate for Barack Obama to the 2008 DNC; a pledged caucus elected delegate for John Kerry to the 2004 DNC; briefly a 2006 Democratic candidate for State Auditor.

In 2006, Coleman delivered the Democratic Party's response to Gov. Matt Blunt's State of the Union Address. In it she said, "The Democratic Party, is now the longest lasting political party in America. Our values were created to protect the common man AND have never bowed down to popular opinion, extremism, prejudice or greed."

In her Feb. 19 resignation as a Committeewoman, in order to run as an Independent for mayor, as reported by ACC, Coleman expressed warm regards for the Party and pride in its work.

In the March 5 St. Louis American, she lambastes the Party and said, "I will be able to do something nobody else is able to do – attack the Democrats.”

In the recent website statement regarding the allegation against Wahby, she also said she had "supported, worked with and raised money for good Democrats my entire life, and I do not expect this to change. Likewise I will continue to speak out against inside-party intimidation."

Over at Political Fix, Jake has a response from Wahby but the story doesn't mention the "bullets and guns" allegation.

Little Bird and City Woman, if you're going to make ad hominem attacks, could you say something specific rather than making vague, meaningless statements?  Otherwise, you just sound like one of Slay's sellout staff members killing time on your facebook break.

City Woman

In the past couple of years, Maida has perfected the role of Victim and it's getting a little tiresome.  It certainly doesn't recommend her for the Mayor's office.  And I find her choice of words 'raped' to be incendiary and insensitive.  Remember, some statistics report that 1 in 3 women will be raped during their lifetime.  Some of those women could tell Maida what rape really is--it's a life-threatening horror and getting appointed to the Missouri House and the Missouri Senate isn't it.

That's what I'm talking about!  I wonder who is being "raped" here?  Has anyone figured that out yet?  Maida Coleman owes her entire political career to the Democratic Party, and quite frankly, Brian Wahby.  She never would have been a state rep or state senator without his support (pssst: she has never run in a contested election!)  Now the Democratic Party, that she was a leader or up until a month ago, "is raping us for votes"??? What an ingrate.

An ingrate? Maida Coleman owes her career to Brian Wahby? aaaaawwwww, looks like 'little bird's' feelings have been hurt here, so sad.

So then is it also true she is not the one who worked so hard on our behalf in Jeff City for so many years? Did Wahby also pay her bills, raise her children and put food on her table? Maybe he even rubbed her poor, tired feet after spending so many hours on the floor working for ALL St. Louisans - democrat, republican, women, men, black, white - no matter - as State Senator.

Her comments referred to here are very obviously taken out of context and yet again, you folks hop on them like flies to manure - typical of you to throw gasoline on a tiny, burning ember - have fun with that..

You won't catch me drinking the Wahby/Slay Kool-Aid, you bunch of crazies.

Maida Coleman - '09!
