Maida Coleman has resigned as Democratic Committeewoman.
I'm on the road right now but will have a longer post (and some other stuff) up tonight.
UPDATE: Here is Coleman's email to her fellow committeepeople:
> Dear Friends,
>
> On Tuesday, February 17th, I turned in to the St. Louis Board of
> Elections petition signatures to allow me to move forward as a Non-
> Partisan/Independent Candidate for Mayor. Once certified, I will be
> placed on the April 7th general election ballot.
>
> Chairman Brian Wahby has been notified by certified mail. I wanted,
> however; to take this opportunity to tell you all how special I
> think each of you are and thank you for the wonderful memories I
> have as a member of of the St. Louis City Democratic Central
> Committee. Although several of you are new committeepeople, I still
> feel a connection. We each voluntarily pay a $100 filing fee to
> work in a volunteer public servant position - there's a bond there
> that means a lot to me.
>
> I've had the pleasure since first being appointed as a
> committeewoman, and then running for my first election in 1996, to
> serve with many good, and I might add, colorful people. I felt
> comfortable the moment I walked into my first meeting and saw old
> friends that I'd known as a secretary in the early 1980s at our
> State Capitol.... Louis Ford, his wife Ida, Quincy Troupe and O.L.
> Shelton. And, who can forget the fun had by all everytime Chink
> Washington stood up to make a point. (Smile)
>
> Myrtle French, Lisa Suggs, Paula Carter and Norma Leggette were
> always great to be around, as was Freddy Guy with that beautiful and
> abundant head of white hair. I'll miss seeing the girls....Pat O.,
> Kathy G. and Janet L., but I can always catch up with Pat on a
> Thursday night at the Cat's Meow!
>
> I also can't forget all the great work that the Central Committee
> has done in recent elections. An amazing effort was put forth to
> elect Barack Obama and Claire McCaskill. You should all be proud of
> the successful results brought forth through this volunteer position.
>
> I wish you well and you can always count on me to buy tickets to the
> Halloween Party. Bring back the Truman Dinner!
>
> All my best, Maida
