Sure is – along with CBS Radio stations in many other markets outside the top 15 or so. It’s still odd to think that CBS would part with KDKA, Pittsburgh (for the right offer) or “Voice of St. Louis” KMOX. But that’s the reality of Dan Mason’s world – he and Leslie Moonves want to distill the group down to the large markets and the clusters where they’ve got “scale.” St. Louis, with just two FMs (KEZK and KYKY) and a monster (though expensive to run) AM named KMOX, isn’t one of them. So maybe giving KMOX general manager Dave Ervin a so-long handshake is a kind of budget move – ahead of potentially selling the station and/or the cluster. There’s local speculation about CBS and Bonneville discussing a swap, perhaps to let Bonneville get bigger in St. Louis and CBS to get bigger in some place like Phoenix. Bonneville's Bruce loves to swap - we already know that. |
