McCaskill Opposes More Troops

Sectarian conflict makes it impossible for our troops to be anything other than target practice.

I am relieved and delighted that Claire has taken this position. Her description of Bush's escalation of this war of 'hopeful but not sound' is spot on.

Posted by bridget on Wed., Jan 10, 2007 at 4:52 PM

Please support the bill by Senator Kennedy to cut off funding for the escalation.

Thanks for doing all you can to bring our troops safely home. That's real patriotism. It makes me proud to have contributed to your campaign and to have voted for you.

Thankyou Ms. McCaskill for your stand on the troop increase. Doesn't anyone remember the word escalation during Viet Nam? This war is going nowhere but to the heartbreak of many American Moms,Dads, husbands, wives and children....Let's all join together and bring our kids home! And fight the wars that really count!

Please dont have a war started with Iran. Lets finish up one first. Thanks.

I was a dad, husband, and child that served in the Gulf War. As a Soldier, I did not have the luxury of asking why...I just did as I was ordered. I know if I was an Iraqi citizen, I sure would be grateful for what the U.S. has done in Iraq, especially with removing a dictator that killed whenever he felt it was necessary. Imagine if you were that Iraqi citizen. The job is not done and we have to support our troops on the ground. Leaving now would only increase instability in that region. If it takes more troops to calm that violence, then it should take place. Let us not forget what happened in New York City. Those same terrorists lived and continue to live in Iraq, Iran, Syria, and many other countries. We have to defeat them, otherwise, I can promise you this; we will have another 9-11 in the future.

Posted by Valentin Cruz on Thu., Jan 18, 2007 at 9:31 AM

I am glad to hear that Ms McCaskill is listening with her HEAD and not only her heart. That in a nutshell is what I think has been wrong with this IRAQ war all along. The terrorists who attacked us did NOT come from Iraq, but from Saudi Arabia, yet I hear of no call for their leaders heads to fall. I hope that in addition to disagreeing with the President, she will fight to PREVENT this foolish plan from going forward & INVESTIGATE and JAIL war profiteers, no matter how high in government they happen to be. For this war had been fought for PROFIT not safety.

Posted by P. Ryan on Thu., Jan 18, 2007 at 10:08 AM

Iraq is not Vietnam-the people making those comaparisons usually weren't even there for the experience. Terrorists have targeted our country-we can either take the fight to them or they will bring it to us as they did in New York. I think Ms. McCaskill is taking the party line and not acting in the best long term interest of the people of Missouri.

To the Honorable Senator Claire McCaskill:
Thank you for seeing whats going on in Iraq which I am also observing. As you said our troops in Iraq are nothing more than moving targets. Iraq is currently at the beginning of their civil war. The Iraqi's will have their full blown civil war whether the U.S. pulls out tomorrow or fifty years from now. Middle Eastern scholar Richard Bulliet tells us The Middle East has not been stable since the end of WWII when the European countries were forced to give up their control in those countries. What replaced the leadership in the Middle Eastern countries was dictatorships. Muslim religion is the rallying point against these dictatorships. Over sixty percent of Iraqis want some form of the Muslim religion incorporated in their government. Iraq will have no use/need for U.S. christiandom whether the country ends up led by the Sunnis or the Shites. No matter what sect ends up running Iraq, the U.S. will not be welcome. This a no-win situation for the United States. Only death. The Bush administration will prolong this occupation for as long as possible in order to remove Iraqs oil at no cost for their BP, Chevron, Exxon/Mobil, and Shell friends, while reconstruction companys such as Haliburton with no-bid contracts payed for by the American taxpayer collect billions. Another nice byproduct of the U.S. occupation is the murdering of thousands of Iraqi's. How convenient for Israel. Israel known for their false flags in collaberation with the U.S. also reaps rewards from the continued presence in Iraq at the cost of the lives of U.S. service men and women. How fortunate for Israel's they aren't dying in Iraq. Wasn't most of Bush's defense team made up of zionist Jews? Gee, what a conincidence. How come we haven't heard about any of this? Could it be that the media is controlled by Jews. Well lets see. Jews control every major network in the U.S. except for Fox. But wait, isn't the head of Fox news a Jew. Jews own/control almost every major newspaper including the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal just to name a few. Jews own/control most major magazines including Time, Newsweek, U.S. News and World Report to name a few. Jews own/control almost all large radio stations. Jews own/control most cable networks. Jews own/control most book publishing companies. Just try and get anything published with anything remotely resembling something anti-semantic. Hollywood is run by Jews. One only has to read the producers, writers, actors names in the credits to see who is creating our movies. When was the last time you saw anything anti-semantic in a hollywood movie? Yes the Jews control the American media. Everyday they tell us what to think, how to think, what to believe, who to trust through a never ending surge of mass media. The only thing the Zionist don't control is the internet. How they must hate the internet. The last place Americans can go to exchange ideas and learn about what is really going on in the world. The World Media Organization ranked the U.S. 22nd in freedom of media in the world. Thats scary. No wonder corporate America is trying to privatize the internet. Israel owns the U.S. media. Benjamin Freedman tells us in his 1961 speach Israel is entrenched in our defense policy decisions. Freedman goes on to tell us Israel and their army of 60,000 AIPAC lobbyist own our congress. Thats 122 lobbyist for each member of congress. Senator does AIPAC own you yet? I know they own Nancy Pelosi which is convenient for her since her husband is a zionist Jew. Which would explain why she has no intention of seeking impeachment hearings against Bush and members of his administration. Which is why she has no intention of reopening 911. Aren't you the least bit curious whats in the 28 pages of the 911 commision report thats been classified and will remain classified until the year 2011. What happens between now and 2011? Why did FEMA build 600 prisions capable of holding 20,000 prisioners each? Who do they plan on putting in those prisions? I like your idea of getting the lobbyist out of Washington and returning our congress back to the people who elected them. AIPAC's has to go. I don't paticulary care for Israel running my country. My son turns 18 in two years, I would hate for our Israeli led congress to send my son to die for Zionist causes. The door is closing in the face of freedom, its almost shut. Its congress men and women like you that hold the final card. How will you play it? Senator thank you for your time.

I want to know where the wreakage of flight 77 is. I want to know where the wreakage of flight 93 is. I don't think we can let these important questions just blow away.

Posted by Richard Fraser on Thu., Jan 18, 2007 at 8:41 PM

I second what was posted by dave on Thursday, Jan. 18, 2007, I don't think I could have expressed it better myself. Unfortunately, I believe The Congress to be just a dog & pony show to lull us into a belief that there is debate in this country...it appears nothing can stop the powers that be.

Posted by Janet Adam on Sat., Jan 20, 2007 at 12:14 PM

Almost everything we hear and see are lies. Rice's visit to the middle east was not a peace mission. She is trying to create a situation where the Muslim States take sides and work against each other. She is trying to sow mistrust. Bush knows 20 thousand troops will not make any difference in Iraq. He wants to have a bigger force prescense so he can threaten Syria and Iran. This whole mess was born of lies and deciet. It must stop now.
Maliki doesn't want more US troops. He wants his army and police to be adequately armed and protected so they can do their jobs. This situation in Iraq is simply hopeless. Wimpy resolutions and talk won't stop this insanity. Congress must simply tell Bush to start arming Maliki's forces and start pulling out our troops NOW and Congress must cut off all funding for continuing this disaster Bush and the neoclowns created in Iraq.
We spend 8 billion dollars a month bombing, shelling, and shooting Iraqis. I think we will get better results if we leave immediately and give Iraq 8 billion dollars every six months and let them solve thier own problems. Our prescense only makes things worse and costs lives lost for nothing. I don't think we can afford "stupid" anymore.

One doesn't have to be from Missouri to be thankful that you have been elected and are now serving on this vital committee. This Californian appreciates all you are doing!

Posted by Long Beach on Wed., Jan 24, 2007 at 4:52 AM

Despite McCaskill's rhetoric and all of the positive comments here about her "taking a stand," not only is McCaskill not cutting off funding for the war, but she is planning on signing the Republican Warner Amendment that *promises* that democrats will never cut off funds for the war. In other words, she knows this war is wrong, but is willing to let more families be destroyed so that she can still look "tough." Way to cave in to the republican talking points Claire, so glad I voted for "change."

Posted by Adam on Sun., Feb 4, 2007 at 3:31 PM

Claire McCaskill has definitely caved into Washington. Before her election, she stated she did not support additional funding for the war. (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2006/11/26/senelect-mccaskill-peo_n_34916.html) How quickly she changes her mind. I am consistantly floored that our elected officials do not listen to those who elect them. If she has changed her talking points in just weeks, I shudder to think of what they will be at the end of her term.

Posted by Colleen on Sun., Feb 4, 2007 at 5:20 PM

Bush has asked for another 240 billion dollars for the "war on terror". Added to the 500 billion dollars we have already spent (or borrowed from Asia and Saudia Arabia) this equals 3/4 of a trillion dollars. For that much money we could have installed windmill generators all along the continental divide, where the wind always blows. West of the continental divide is the Great Basin. We could have filled the deserts of the Great Basin with solar generating panels. If we had done this, instead of going to war to secure a supply of oil, we wouldn't need oil. We could transport goods and people on electric trains. We could have built electric cars to replace gasoline powered cars. In fact we could produce so much electricity that we could export electricity to other countries. Spending a trillion dollars on a dwindiling supply of oil, which is poisoning our planet, instead of changing to solar and wind generated electricity is simply INSANE ! I can't believe we have no leadership people who don't realize this. I don't expect anything positive to come from Bush/Cheney but, hey, how about you Sen. McCaskill ?

Posted by Richard Fraser on Mon., Feb 5, 2007 at 2:13 PM

stop this war, forget the resolution which does nothing, stop the funding,

Posted by earl Changar on Wed., Feb 7, 2007 at 2:28 PM

Isn't it great to post comments among like minds? I mean, as long as we think the same, we don't have to think about the future consequences of our present actions or come up with rational arguments.

Stop the war!
Go state sponsored abortion (for personal or "stem cell research")!
Increase minimum wage!
Buy a hybrid!

Posted by Kevin Horner on Sun., Feb 11, 2007 at 10:10 AM

Stopping the war is a step in the right direction. But don't let the war issue distract from the need to expose the criminals in the Bush administration. Do your research, engage in some critical thinking, listen to the ones who are telling the truth. Talk to William Rodriguez!

Posted by Pat Davis on Wed., Feb 14, 2007 at 6:02 PM

Please let us win this war in Iraq. Let the military do their job, they will need funding and support, something the newly elected congress seems to want take away. Please don't help make this another Vietnam.Only if we fail in Iraq the war will follow us home.

Posted by David L. Adair on Sun., Feb 18, 2007 at 6:00 PM

Please don't let anymore of the soldiers that we need to defend!!!! this country die in a Country that could care less. Thank you

Posted by Randy on Wed., Feb 21, 2007 at 7:43 PM

Listen, Congress better hurry up and impeach Bush/Cheney before they attack Iran, finish bankrupting the economy, finish destroying all constitutional freedoms, completely ruin everything they can. I suspect Dick Cheney eats live babies.

Posted by Dick Rivers on Thu., Feb 22, 2007 at 1:28 PM

Why is this just a haven for a bunch of anti-war and conspiracist crackpots? Only about 3 people posting on here even remotely had their facts straight. Reading this makes me lose a little hope for America. Wake up!

Posted by Steven Christopher on Sat., Mar 3, 2007 at 11:27 AM

Some people say "please let the military win the war in Iraq. Just what does winning the war in Iraq mean? What is there to win? We can only lose, because this is an illegal war which a bunch of criminals lied us into. After the mass murder of 9/11 we as a nation were so mad that we just wanted to drop bombs on someone, anyone, we didn't care.
Listen, a 737 crashed into the Pentagon and dissappeared ? No fuselage, no passerger seats, no engines. The engines of a 737 are 8 tons of titanium and stainless steel. The don't just dissappear. Then a 737 crashes in Shanksville and leaves no wreackage? No fuselage, no passenger seats, no passenger luggage, and strangely no bodies ? And a small fire causes the collaspe of Building Seven ? And we can all see the explosions that brought down the Twin Towers while all the first responders all reported multiple explosions. Hey, who but a complete dolt believes this crap.
Senator McCaskill, we didn't elect you to play nice with the neo-criminals who have control of the corporate media and the goverment. We elected you to do the right thing and expose the TRUTH. We (the American People) are not idiots. We know there was a cover up and we want an independant investigation into the 9/11 act of treason and mass murder. So, get to it, girl!!!!
