will hold Press Conference tomorrow
WHEN: FRIDAY, December 29, 2006 @ 10AM
WHO: St. Louis Teachers & School Related Personnel Union-Local 420
WHERE: 801. N. 11th Street
(In front of St. Louis Public School Board of Education)
WHY: The St. Louis Teachers & School Related Personnel Union-Local 420 will join the American Federation of School Administrators-Local 44, St. Louis Public School Board Members, local and state elected officials, community leaders, parents, students, and concerned citizens calling for a public hearing before a decision is made on a state takeover of St. Louis public schools. Local 420 will support any decision that is in the best interest of the employees we represent as well as ensuring a quality education for our public school children. We want to hear from the public and allow them to ask questions about the ramifications of a state takeover.
If this is the actual press release I find it very interesting that Local-420 has their first priority as saving their jobs, then comes the part about quality education for children.
Just goes to show why we need school choice. We need teachers and related personnel who are involved with and work in education because they value strengthening the education opportunities for children not because they are trying to get paid.
How many people actually spend time in school buildings so that they are aware of what THE CHILDREN have to deal with on a daily basis. With only 20% of the city turning out for an election it shows that parents are fed up with both sides of the table. Parents reject both teams. That is why Local-420 and others in their camp fear choice, they know the majority of their members can't keep up. It can sometimes take up to three years (or more) to get rid of a poor performing teacher. JUST THINK FOR A MINUTE HOW MANY CHILDREN THAT EQUATES TO!!! All because the union wants to defend jobs!!!!
It's unfortunate for the non-members and others that might want to speak up, that their jobs are always threatened by people like Mary Armstrong.
