Tough situation. If he fights he looks hypocritical with his support of the underperforming Confluence Academy. Motto "We may be underperforming the city public schools on every criteria but we have ping pong!" (As an aside, Jeff seems to have gotten a pass on the finical support that came to his camping from Edison. 1. Jeff helps create charter school and hires Edison to run it. 2. Edison makes profits from city school system. 3. Edison funnels money back to Jeff as campaign contributions. The political circle of life.) If he supports the Guv's choice he risks alienating the yuppie pro public school folks who elected him but wouldn’t send their own kids to public school. My guess he will fight. He is very comfortable being hypocritical and then the appointment can go to a white south sider and he shores up his base.

That white boy will look for any reason to take the sister down. Look what he did in the primary. Get used to it.

While I don't want to get sucked into the whole race issue, I do wonder how he compares the charter school movement to Donayle's work for school choice. They seem pretty similar. Both are attacked and accused of taking money and students from the public schools. I don't know about the performance issues of his charter. I would think it would out perform the city schools. Who doesn't though?

"I do wonder how he compares the charter school movement to Donayle's work for school choice."

From Jeff Smith's campaign website:

"However, I will staunchly oppose voucher schemes that divert public money to selective private schools, which I believe are unconstitutional."
