Cacchione Event

Patrick Cacchione kicked off his aldermanic bid last night. It was a healthy turn-out. My crowd count was about 80, on a wet and stormy night.

He spoke for about ten minutes starting with a few self-effacing jokes and tracing his political life that brought him to this decision.

He called the 6th ward the most exciting place in the city with its vibrant development opportunities and diverse mix of residents. As alderman he said he would keep the developments going and work hard on issues of crime and security.

In the crowd: St. Margaret's Tom Wyrsch, politico Hank Thompson (who will be helping the Reed campaign), Frank Rebholz, Pat Barber, Joan Kelly Horn and State Rep. Robin Wright Jones.

Pictures in the Gallery.

Dave:

You need to bring Gena Miller back from New York to help with photography.

Give me a little history lesson, please. Did
Cacchione run as a Republican once. What is his political background?

thanks it's fixed.

He ran for Alderman in 1999 against Reed and lost. He had the support of then Alderman Marit Clark and Lafayette Square. Also ran for Congress against big Bill Clay and lost. Its been reported that he gave money to Talent and Akin at one time. Staunch Catholic and moderate conservatism probably doesn't help the situation with the people who identify him as a closet Republican.

He actually is a Democrat, hard for some of the myopic so called progressives on this site to understand, but he joked about it last night, and he said that despite what people say, the first campaign he ever worked on was Walter Mondale's campaign.

Why the h*ll does it matter which party a city politician is in when choosing which way to vote? How does being a democrat or republican affect the way city government is run? How does it make a person not want the best for St. Louis? This absolutely boggles my mind. Pick the best possible candidate for the betterment of our city, not whether that person is in your party of choice. If you don't, the city government will never change.

Cacchione is a mercenary political adviser who has been a spokesman for both the Carondelet Health System and tobacco retailers.

"mercenary" bit strong of a word there, How dare he make a buck working for hospitals and gas stations... I guess the man should let his family go hungry?

Re: "It's been reported that he gave money to Talent and Akin"

It's not just reported, it's verifiable fact. Go to fec.gov and do the query. I would and post the link, but I can't seem to make it work. Someone who is better at computers surely could.

And it ain't just Talent and Akin--you'll find more GOP donations from Cacchione.

And as for why does it make a difference? Do you think the Republican policies emanating from Jeff City have been good for STL? If not, what makes you think they won't be harmful when they originate closer to home?

Here is the link:
http://www.fec.gov/finance/disclosure/norindsea.shtml

Just type in his name and you will see all the contributions he has made. He has also made contibutions to Russ Carnahan. However, how can Cacchione be the committeeman of the 6th ward democrats then go and give contributions to Talent, Akin, and Jo Ann Emerson?

While I was on the site, it mentioned his contributions made as Preident/Advocacy Strategies.Everyone should look into his company, Advocacy Strategies, it seems very useful for groups who need assistance with a message but also very open to playing both sides of the fence. I don't really think that he's a Republican or anything like that, I just don't understand what his true motives are.
