Last night at the Lafayette Square Neighborhood meeting, Christian Saller announced he would join the field and run for 6th ward alderman.
Saller, 43, has been active in the Tower Grove East neighborhood association as well as various historic preservation causes. He works at SLDC.
I didn't think SLDC employees, as per many non-profit organizations' policies, were allowed to run in partisan contests. I like Christian as the only political outsider in what is shaping up as now a 3-way race. But being an outsider, plus the second white male, Saller hopefully doesn't end up unemployed, despite his honorable intentions.
Posted by Brian on Wed., Nov 15, 2006 at 11:27 AMHopefully Saller has made some agreement to be able to fill his position post March 2007. It is going to be difficult for a political outsider to take this seat. Especially in such a political ward that consists of Russ, Aldermanic President candidate Reed, Ward gridiron Bucheit, and both Cacchione and Triplett. As one of the few remaining machine wards, this race will be one to watch.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by ???? on Wed., Nov 15, 2006 at 3:46 PMI recall Howard Hayes ran for Collector of Revenue a few years back while an employee of St. Louis Public Schools.
Now, SLDC is different, but I'm not sure you'd have to give up your job just to run in a primary. If you win the primary, however, you'd have to leave in order to run in the general election. I think that's right, but I haven't looked at the SLDC employee manual in several years.
Incidentally, I would wholeheartedly support Christian Saller for 6th ward alderman! He really is a great guy who understands and knows this city and its neighborhoods very well.
Posted by Joe Frank on Thu., Nov 16, 2006 at 1:46 PMFor what it's worth, Christian has left St. Louis Development Corporation. His employers didn't think that it would be a good idea for him to campaign while he was still an employee, so he gave his official notice as soon as he made the decision to run. His last day was today, and I'm sure that he'll be greatly missed.

Then there's his blog comment about living in St. Louis most of his life without mentioning he lived in exclusive Park View. When he inherits the farm will be bolt from TGE?
