Stuff

Just back from voting, pretty solid lines at the 8th ward.

We'll have regular updates here: some on the ground reporting from competitive State House races; tid-bits I've been hearing and things to look for.

As always, feel free to email or call with tips - 314-255-5210.

Blogging will continue throughout the night. If you're a Salon.com reader, you might look for my byline late tonight; I'll be filing their Talent-McCaskill story.

More soon...

Long lines at 16/7 (St. Mark's Episcopal in St. Louis Hills).

Probably from long ballot not excessive turnout, but...

Hang onto that 'long ballot' theory Joe. It'll help you get through the day. ;)

Very high number of voters at polls in the 28th ward this morning.

I was # 176 at Webster Groves Rec Center at 7:25 a.m. I voted on the optical scan for the first time. Hopefully, Diebold didn't switch my vote.

Total time: 25 minutes.

Line was longer when I left.

Go Claire!

Surprisingly quiet at Carpenters Hall (24th Ward), 6:45 am. No more than three or four voters at a time. Took ten or twelve minutes to vote (much of that time spent double-checking my choices to make sure they registered).

Just voted in the 10th (St. Ambrose School) about a five minute wait for one of 3 touch screens. Flow was steady did not see any problems.

15th Ward (Mann School) seemed very heavy. No wait for my precinct, but the polling place was very crowded. Seemed about 50/50 optical scan vs. touch screen but it was hard to tell since there was no line for optical scan if you had your own pen. People got their ballot and went to a vacant bench in the gym.

My optical scan vote at about 7:30 was counted as #204 on the optical scanner. I assume that means I was the 204th optical scan voter since the counter bumped up by 1 when my ballot was scanned.

24th ward 4 and 5th precincts at Mason Elementary on Southwest 8am. 30 people in there 15 voting. Five minute wait for a seat to fill in the ballot and ten minutes for one of the four touch screen machines.

Only "problems" I saw was a bit of confusion as to where to put your ballot. I told three folks where to put the ballot. Had another guy try and put the touch screen card in the ballot box- yikes!!

No one asked anyone for a photo ID thankfully enough. Pollworkers seemed to have it down. The poll manager told me that at 6am they had lines out the door.

Stepfather voted at 6am at New City School/CWE (5th ward?) and he said that it took forever because there were only two touch screen. He said folks were going for the ballots and filling them out wherever they could find a spot. He said the line was out the door to vote- 45 people at the very least. Nothing bad just heavy traffic.

At both polling places there were no candidate's workers handing out lit?

Happy voting

15th Ward at Juanita School. High turnout it took an hour from when I walked in to when I walked out. I would say 70/30 in favor of the optical scanner, which the vote judges realized needed to be plugged in around 8:00 (there is a battery back up so the earlier votes were counted).

Dave or someone else-

In previous years the Election Board would take miday punch cards, run them through the computer and release them about 7:30 pm. The the final results would come in mostly in a second count (correct me if I'm wrong)

I understand that the electronic machines and or paper scanners won't be "emptied" at noon and that the first results may be much later-Can some one give us some help to know when to show up at the various events-And is Senator McCaskill goinna be in St. Louis at the Renaissance?
