Stem Cell losing some ward endorsements?

Email from a southside Dem:

It's worse than I ever could have imagined. Some of the wards are not merely leaving stem cell off the ballot, they will be saying Vote NO. The Church didn't merely want the issue off the ward sample ballots, it insisted on opposition. Central Committee, btw, gives each ward $1000 for general election GOTV, printing, etc. In essence, money given to Central Committee over past year is money going to defeat the stem cell initiative. At this rate, stem cell is going to tank on the south side.

Amendment 2 will do fine on the south side. People have opinions already about it before going to the poll and so ward endorsements won't be a big deal.

"In essence, money given to Central Committee over past year is money going to defeat the stem cell initiative."

Well, duh! If you don't like what the Central Committee is doing with your money, demand that your contribution be returned (and let them know why).

Amendment 2 supporters should know that, unlike the Democrats, the Progressive Party is standing by its endorsement of Amendment 2.

Apparently the City Central Committee has sent a newsletter to every ward with a sample ballot that has a "yes" position on Amendment 2.

That combined with the waning ability of Ward organizations to influence their voters will minimize their influence and show how out of touch some of these Committee people are with the voters of their wards.

Are you aware of active anti-amendment two campaigning by a committee member? If so who?

the 16th ward demo mailer endorses amdt 2 and urges a no vote on 3

This is the sort of thing that happens when committeepeople miss Central Committee meetings.

Likely, after the airing of the dirty laundry here, the matter was resolved and calm restored.

I do not know who was in charge of the cat herding with regard to the 28 same but different ward newsletters, paid for by Central Committee, but you could not have paid me a million dollars to track down committeepeople photographs and find out how each ward wanted its ballot personalized. The newsletters vary with regard to the sample ballot and whose photo appears as ward leader(s) in the rah rah column on front page.

10th Ward has yes on stem cell, yes on minimum wage, yes on recreation tax.

20th Ward has yes on stem cell, no on tobacco tax, yes on minimum wage. Smith, Favazza, Daly, McMillan, Carpenter all have photos & a paragraph about how great they are. 20th is in Coleman's district, not Dougherty/Smith.

23rd Ward, I think, has yes on stem cell, no on tobacco tax, yes on minimum wage, yes on recreation tax.

Many of the newsletters carry a column by Cacchione dissing the tobacco tax.

Chippewa has been replaced with Cheppewa on the south side ward maps on back page of the newsletters.

As the number of people who use the Internet increases, their ability to make an informed decision does as well. Although there is propaganda on both sides, the ability to read proposed legislation on the SOS website is a great resource.

“…20th is in Coleman's district, not Dougherty/Smith.”

Jeff Smith is not in Jefferson City yet; and he’s making heinous mistakes. For crying out loud, the guy doesn’t know the boundaries of the district he was elected in the Democratic primary to represent. It is a very dangerous precedent when elected officials disrespect political boundaries.

He’s made a big booboo. I hope he does better for himself and the 4th Senatorial District when trying to find the bathroom in Jeff City.

After all...Nia knows that’s what the majority gets for voting for a carpetbagger.

Doug, the comment below yours undercuts your thesis.

Nia, you're either a sore loser or a very good parody. You'd think that the people who put the ward newsletter together would know who their state senator is. I doubt Jeff forced them at gunpoint to put a glowing article about him in the newsletter.

Completely OT: Walking down Clayton next to the Medical Center, I noticed that in the newly dried cement, someone had written "Joe Roddy Sux".

===Jeff Smith is not in Jefferson City yet; and he’s making heinous mistakes.

I didn't know Jeff was in charge of sample ballots in a Ward outside of his District so how is he making a mistake?

Seriously, who do you think made that mistake? The Ward organization that wrongly included him, or the guy who was wrongly included?

He isn't on the sample ballot, there is a short blurb on him in the paper, I fail to see how this is a mistake that a new senator has some ink in a democratic newsletter, Nia, needs a life!
