I wonder if there's a clause in the new collective bargaining agreement preventing players and managers from publicly taking political positions during the baseball season. Should be.

Look for the reporters to swarm Suppan with Jim Talent and Amendment 2 questions. Great.

Or should that be....

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrreaaat!!!!!!!!!

Cards Fan, why should players and managers be prohibited from speaking about non-baseball matters? What does it have to do with playing baseball?

It distracts from the game and maybe MLB would want the focus to be on earned run average rather than equal rights amendment. MLB is a business and may want to keep its products controversy free.

It can pretty dumb to do it from a pr perspective for baseball, but other businesses do require corporate sign off on statements of any kind to the press.

I happen to disagree with him, but it seems to me if you feel strongly about something, you should speak out about it. If he were wearing his uniform, it would be a different story.

This is more a moral issue than a political issue. When it comes to freedom of speech, every American ought to enjoy and exercise the right regardless of profession.
