They've got all the nuggets:
Reed announces to his ward org. One 6th warder called this morning to report that since both Cacchione and Triplett are members of the ward exec. committee, there won't be a ward endorsement for alderperson. This source also suggests that there won't be anymore serious candidates beside these two.
Blunt gets an A from CATO. But he gets a 36% from MO.
Harpool helped Claire beat Talent in the debates. Now he just has to win his own Senate race.
Carnahan's hiring GOTV workers. Paying a nice living wage.

Posted by The Force is Strong on Fri., Oct 20, 2006 at 9:48 AMHmm, no official ward organization vote. Any bets on a new organization(s) forming and endorsing one of the candidates? And no more "serious" candidates. OK, what about some non-serious candidates? If Christian Saller were to run would he be considered fringe/non-serious?
Posted by Urban Review on Fri., Oct 20, 2006 at 10:03 AMFactual correction: there will be a ward endorsement for the next Alderman of the 6th ward, but it won't be until closer to the beginning of the new year.
Posted by The Lou Wonk on Fri., Oct 20, 2006 at 10:40 AMIt would certainly not make any sense for wards (6th or otherwise) to endorse a candidate until after the filing period has both opened and closed. They must know all the candidates, you'd hope.
Thus, we should not see any endorsement on this or the President of the Board of Alderman race until 2007.
But I have a question, is the 6th ward one of those that is closed or open to voting by membership? If the latter, will we see the candidates try to stack the membership roles with people that will vote to endorse them? Also if open, what is their endorsement process?

So many questions...yet no one to answer. For peat's sake ACC will you please answer Urban Review. Don't leave the kid hangin all the time.
Posted by The Potato on Fri., Oct 20, 2006 at 11:55 AMLet me shed some light. For those not familiar with the term, an open ward is one that makes endorsements of candidates for office by way of a vote of the members in attendance to a given meeting at which the vote is taken. A closed ward, in contrast, makes endorsement by way of a decision (I am not sure if it is a discussion, vote or other mechanism) of the two elected Committeepeople (man and woman). The 6th ward is one of the open endorsement wards within the city.

Posted by Bubba on Wed., Oct 25, 2006 at 10:05 AMPatrick Cacchione is a REPUBLICAN, a wolf in sheeps clothing scumbag. He lives in a mansion in Compton Heights, not exactly someone really in touch with the poor and middle class in the 6th Ward. He also is PAID CONSULTANT FOR MISSOURIANS AGAINST TAX ABUSE and HE DID NOT DISCLOSE THIS TO ANYONE at the 6th Ward Democratic meeting. He knowingly did not diclose this to anyone at that meeting, and was able to manipulate his agenda- supported by big tobacco- to vote NO on Amendment 3 on the green sample ballot that will be handed to voters at the poles on election day. I don't have a problem with someone stating their views or opinions, but if you do not dislose information such as this, especially at the 6th ward democratic council AND claim to be a Democrat AND you have contributed the MAXIMUM AMOUNT TO JIM TALENT'S CAMPAIGN, you, Mr. Patrick Cacchione, are a dirty typical REPUBLICAN. If you can't win in the city and anywhere else, you are a typical scheming and shady Republican trying to sneak your way into the city.
GET OUT OF THE 6th WARD and GET OUT OF MY CITY
