State Rep-elect Jamilah Nasheed told ACC today that she is 100% behind Kacie Triplett for 6th ward alderman; she says she will be door-knocking and working hard for Triplett.

It appears the stars are lining up against Alderman Reed.

Did he do something to upset the political establishment?

They enticed him to run against an unbeatable, political franchise in Jim Shrewsbury.

And now, other prominent elected officials are endorsing his 6th ward challengers.

Who would lead Reed on such a folly, and will they be able to lead him back?

So it's official? Kacie Triplett is running. Does anyone know where Lewis Reed, Beverly Bucheit, or Russ Carnahan is in any of this?

Jim Shrewsbury does not respect minorities. Every intelligent minority that he had on his minimal staff, he has released for ridiculous reasons. The 16th Ward has never stood for a minority candidate against anyone unless they were running unopposed. He puts on a good face, but really doesn't care about minorities. He never comes in minority neighborhoods, and refuses to put any pictures of minorities on his website, except his token staff members that are on the bottom pictures (the back of the bus) of his website. One minority woman is a staff member, and the other woman is a secretary. Yet, he puts different languages on his website as if he wants inclusion. We need someone that can bring the City of St. Louis together in the President of the Board of Alderman position. We don't need symbolism without substance, and Jim Shrewsbury is a symbolism of the Good Ole Boy network that keeps this city from moving forward.

Since Louis Reed doesn't have any photos of white people on his aldermanic website, does that mean he doesn't like caucasians?

And I have seen Jim Shrewsbury at many events where the audience was predominately minority.

I think your post "Who is..." is mean spirited and without merit.

Let's stick to some issues instead of fiction.

And "who is..." I forget to ask if you don't think Fire Chief George is a minority? Or if the half dozen or so other people on the FIRST PAGE of his website who look of African descent aren't minorities.

His website is translated into Bosnian which is a minority in St. Louis.

He also introduced an ordinance which gets non-violent criminals out of jail and into community rehab programs.

How is that not for minorities?

The Fire Chief is your token idea of a minority Jack Louis. I guess you are one of those guys that talk about how you have some minority friends and point to that one guy that is always non-confrontational, and agrees with whatever you have to say. Your one minority friend is a probably a go along type of guy that you are proud of. By the way you sound like a racist (Jack Louis, I sure hope you are not a minority making statements like that), I never mentioned Louis Reed in my statement but you're immediate back door attack was on him.

Why did you automatically start an attack on Louis Reed? Jack Louis are you feeling guilty down in your possibly racist gut, and puking up racist comments. There are more people able to lead as President of the Board of Alderman than the Jim Shrewsbury and Louis Reed. What if someone else gets in the race? I see that you and Douglas Duckworth are ready to attack Louis Reed from your southside territories, whether he is mentioned or not in a statement.

This is a clear indication of the type of support that Jim Shrewsbury garners. Good Ole Boy central and southside racists that attack minorities whether they are mentioned or not, whether they have done anything wrong or not!

For Mr. Douglas Duckworth, READ WHAT I SAID-YOU RACIST TWERP (I know you are not a minority!), I mentioned that Jim Shrewsbury is a symbol without substance. THIS ORDINANCE IS SYMBOLISM WITHOUT SUBSTANCE AND A VERY RACIST STATEMENT, AND I AM ASHAMED OF YOU DOUGLAS DUCKWORTH. YOUR STATEMENT ASSUMES THAT MINORITIES ARE THE ONLY GROUP OF PEOPLE THAT ARE THE NON-VIOLENT CRIMINALS AND NEED REHAB PROGRAMS. IS THIS ORDINANCE CALLED THE MINORITY JAIL BILL, YOU RACIST! I guess you all are members of Jim Shrewsbury's special interest group. Your interest are in keeping a quota for minorities and keeping them viewed as criminals. I think the other day Jim Shrewsbury was down at the City Workhouse demanding that all minority non-violent criminals be released immediately and sent to rehab, because he is an attorney and he passed an ordinance as President of the Board of Alderman!!!

Jim Shrewsbury spends his spare time completing Pro-Bono work for all the non-violent minorities in the City of St. Louis, Yeah Right!

Are there any other statements about minorities you guys would like to make? I HOPE NOT, JUST BE QUIET!!!

Did I say that the ordinance was directly for minorities? The ordinance does not have any racial criteria as I am sure that would be discriminatory. Any ordinance which gives people a second chance if they are incarcerated is good public policy. People make mistakes and it is a good idea for non-violent offenders to be removed from the general population. If they recieve rehabilitation then perhaps they will not return to jail upon release.

The majority of inmates are African American. In twenty states, the percent of blacks incarcerated is at least five times greater than their share of resident population. This is a result of the War on Drugs and three strikes laws upon which non-violent drug offenders are given mandatory minimum sentences. The Justice Department reports that only 49 percent of inmates are in jail for violent offenses. Rehabilitation benefits African Americans in jail as they compose 43.9 percent of the inmate population. Non-violent inmates have the chance to get out of jail and into rehabilitation programs.

I fail to see how this ordinance is not going to help everyone? Why should we keep non-violent offenders in jail when they could be undergoing rehabilitation and job training? The time for a retributory criminal justice system has passed.

I must come to the defense of Doug for he is not a racist, but rather naive, young and impressionable. For some reason Doug has taken to supporting Jim Shrewsbury, who stands against everything for which Doug has previous stood for--an urban St. Louis, St. Louis development and progress. But that aside, I don't think Doug intended his comments, which were racially charged, to be racist remarks.

On the original topic, Kacie Starr Triplett is definitely running and is knocking out some major fundraising. With the 6th ward being an open ward, I wouldn't expect any Aldermanic or Committeeman/Committeewoman endorsements until after the ward organization has taken a vote.
