At a recent mass, the subject of the Valley Park ordinance came up in the context of the Catholic teaching that as Christians, we are to welcome the stranger/long distance traveler among us as a friend.
Following this line of thinking, a true Christian would break down the barriers to immigration (blurring any distinction between "legal" and "illegal" immigration) and welcome an increased flow of immigrants into this country.
It's no wonder that Catholics are taking the lead on this issue.

I'm sure that the fact that those from Africa are Black, in fact very, very Black, while Hispanics are merely Brown would not have any effect on our choice of who we welcome.
