The irony is so rich in this illegal press release about, well, illegal activities that one scarcely knows where to begin.

Might check your Microsoft Word facts. If you take a document from one computer and alter it while on another computer, it will only change the properties automatically if you have previously set it to do so.

So, if I take document A from a state office computer and use it as a template for a document, say on my laptop, it will still show that it was done on the state office computer.

BTW, is this all you really have to discuss regarding Sandra Thomas? Geesh.

Good detective work, Dave, as far as it went. A few questions remain (and I mean questions, and I don't pretend to presume the answers):

The ACC post above refers to this as "Sandra Thomas press release," but neither Thomas' name nor her committee appears anywhere in this press release. Jeff Roe (the contact named on the press release) is an official with the Thomas campaign, but he has other jobs and avocations as well (notably his Roy Temple-wannabe blog, The Source, which, though ever bit as partisan as Fired Up Missouri, is not connected to the Thomas campaign). Is there some other document (like a cover letter or fax) that ties this release to the Thomas campaign, or is it just a partisan Republican individual taking shots at a Democratic statewide candidate wholly independent of any particular campaign?

The smoking gun is apparently the Properties box in the Word file containing the Press Release, in which the "Company" of the "Author" is identified as "Missouri State Senate," and the "Author" is an employee of a state senator (and someone different than the contact person named in the release). Does that necessarily mean that the computer on which the press release was composed was a "state computer?"

Is there more to this that connects the dots? There's no "Bill Webster" case without more.

The Thomas campaign is not disputing that the release is from them, or that it was written by Daryl Duwe, staff member to Senator David Klindt, on a computer identified as a "Missouri State Senate" computer.

This is yet another rookie mistake engineered by campaign consultant Jeff Roe. One more in a long line of legally questionable campaign tactics. Why do people keep hiring him?
