Lieutenant Governor Harriet Woods and State Senator Rita Days (D-14th) geared up to door-knock for Rep. Maria Chappelle-Nadal (D-72).
Nadal is facing a challenge from former University City councilmember Sandi Colquit. Nadal defeated Colquit in a three-way race in 2004.
In the course of canvassing her district, Nadal says she is often asked about home care for seniors and education. She stresses her support for public education and says efforts by pro-voucher groups like All Children Matter are undercutting efforts to improve schools.
Adding to the usual rivalry between candidates is the split that followed the candidates weighing in on the University City mayoral race in April. Nadal and several other prominent Democratic women, including Woods, supported challenger Shelly Welsch, a U City councilmember. Colquit supported incumbent mayor Joe Adams in his successful re-election bid.
The race split the city and the lingering emotions are likely to play a role in Tuesday's election.
Last month, the Arch City Chronicle reported on Colquit's campaign finance violations. She has since settled with the state, but its unclear how that may effect her support.
Bubba says: Maria, things that make you say hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?
Posted by Bubba on Sat., Aug 5, 2006 at 6:04 PMSo much for intelligent commentary?
Maria has done an outstanding job as Representative, and her reward is being challenged by Colquitt who has no business in ANY public office with her campaing finance crimes.

Sounds like Colquitt and her friends cant take a hint from the last election. The voters said NO bubbye. Dont go away mad just go away.
Tell me the last problem you solved by spending less money. Vouchers are not going to pay for the full cost of a private education, so they wont help anyone in this district. It might give more money to people who already use private schools. They need more money at the cost oc our public schools!!!???
Talk about things that make you say hmmmmmmmmm.
Darnell--dude or dudette, what freakin' planet are you living on? Intelligent takes don't include jibberish like 'NO bubbye' or 'oc'. I'm feeling that typical Maria hate mongering, politics of personal destruction, and simply tearing down people, communities, etc.--you know like she helped Shelley lose the mayoral race with her brilliant idea to engage Lizz Brown and subscribe that to that type of militant racism. Darnell Chappell, tell your idol, instead of pontificating negative, hot air concerning education policy, why don't you try for once to offer voters some POSITIVE ideas about how to better your community. Oh yea, the word 'positive' isn't in her vocabulary. Goodness gracious, heaven help us if Maria is the next BIG thing in Harriet's, Sheila's, and WIN's repetoire. Perhaps we will see another good Maria meltdown in the next two days. I hear the Vegas odds are even money.
Posted by Bubba on Sun., Aug 6, 2006 at 8:55 AMNow let me see...
Colquitt decides to align herself with the Vouchers Lobbyists, and pointing that out to the public is personal destruction...
Colquitt decides that camnpaign finance laws are optional for her, and pointing out issues like that - which SHOULD be important for voters to know. And this is Maria's fault.
So Colquitt is the victim? Good one... I gotta write that down. How about plain personal responsibility. She's a victim of her of own...self. Colquitt made her bed - no one did it to her.
Darn, please, please take a hit on the reality pipe I am passing you. To say that miss Maria is so pious (feel free to look that word up) is tantamount (look that up also) to saying that former Nigerian dictator Edie Amin contributed in a positive way to his community. The best thing about Maria is when you press her on ANY social issue is that she always refers to her best gay friends who don't even know her (as do most of her constituents)and claim up and down how she is such a consensus builder in Jeff City. PLEASE, smell what you all are shovelin'. She may squeak out another victory this time, but she will NOT assume office for a third term! Enjoy the dreamland while it lasts! Oh yea, I am supposed to say hello from the pro voucher lobbyists and they, like the rest of the community ask a simple question, instead of player hating like Maria only knows, what is her constructive ideas as to how to reform the St. Louis Public School District? Oh, let me answer that...play shit disturber and back the ousters of Superintendent Williams, yea, the first guy in a generation who actually had a good plan to right the schools, but no, Maria could not have that...that is positive change.
Posted by Bubba on Sun., Aug 6, 2006 at 1:51 PMInteresting Buba, attach a candidate that does not live in St. Louis and is not running for office in St. Louis to an event that happened in St. Louis.
I love to see operatives making logical leaps, unfortunately this one dose not work well due to the fact that folks in Maria's district know they don't live in St. Louis and don't go to St. Louis public schools.
On another note...
"Saying that former Nigerian dictator Edie Amin contributed in a positive way "
Can you pick a more recent and or less obscure reference? Some people in the U.S. know about Nigeria. Fewer people could point Nigeria out on a map. Many people think of Africa as a country. Do you see where I am going with this?
How about pointing to Uganda. Is Edie the younger brother of Idi? Come on, both of you. Never use a genocidal cannibal as a point of reference.
Posted by TimR on Sun., Aug 6, 2006 at 7:33 PMDarnell, Turd Blossom, whatever handle you care to go by, it is fun playing with you regarding obscure blog takes that get under your skin. Easy TimR now one is kicking sand in anyone's eyes in the sandbox. Hey TurdB, you are so wrong on whose operative you think Bubba is. Keep guessing...
Posted by Bubba on Mon., Aug 7, 2006 at 9:41 AMIt is not that you were both wrong about Idi Amin's country of origin. It was that you both were being so condescending about it. Sorry, I could not pass that softball up.
Posted by TimR on Mon., Aug 7, 2006 at 11:13 AMI like everyone in this discussion, but points go to TimR for the last.
Posted by ArchPundit on Mon., Aug 7, 2006 at 11:28 AMInspecteur Clouseau ici: I'm glad TimR spoke to the truth that Monsieur Horrible, Idi Amin, was from Uganda. Il est mort and probably knows now one should not eat human organs.
On another note, J'ai mal (I'm sick) of hearing trop de Monsieur Jeff Smith. This blog isn't fair or even-handed in les politiques. It's more like, comment vous dites? More like a propaganda site.
Eh bien! I go now. Au revoir, mes amis.
