Open Thread - 58th District

Rodney Hubbard vs Bill Haas.
Hubbard's support for school vouchers has people upset. But most people assume that his ground organization and generally progressive positions will carry the day.
ACC endorsed Hubbard.
Any thoughts?

Rep. Hubbard has done an impeccable job representing all of us in his constituency. All of our communities in the 58th District are strongly behind Rep. Hubbard and as we see him all over the place, we are inspired to send him back to Jefferson City to continue representing our values!

As a friend of Rodney's and supporter, I think he is fine. Rodney has a very strong record to run on and Dave it was a tax credit bill; Rodney draws a line at public money being spent and the bill would have used private funds only. That bill was worked on by myself and others intentionally to be very restrictive in nature so that it could focus on the children most at risk and not be abused like the deseg program.

Rodney Hubbard has been voting with the Republicans since he and Bill Hoskins were ousted from running the Black Caucus. Remember that voter ID bill everyone is concerned about? It got out of the House by two votes: Hubbard and Hoskins.

I disagree with anyone who says Rodney Hubbard has represented his constituency well...unless he moved out to Wildwood.

Posted by Louis on Sat., Jul 29, 2006 at 12:06 PM

Actually, the final bill passed the House by ten votes. Hubbard, Hoskins, and the rest of the City delegation voted No.

Leslie Farr, thank you for helping me make up my mind.

Any one that works with you and your Republican
masters does not get my vote.

I am a Democrat and have no interest in voting for any one that would get their ideas from people that support BUSH or BLUNT.

P.Eye you are right on the money with that take chief! Louis and Peter, you better do some research before attempting a spin next time. Oh yea, check your demographics too. Rodney is outcampaigning Haas everywhere--and get this, Rodney is sane.

Various thoughts. I'll try not to be too hard on brother Bubba; he would seem to have enough issues. Seems like he'd be perfect for Mental Health Board; would fit right in. Perhaps my humanity, in the sense of having some of the same human frailties and vulnerabilities that we all have, strike a chord in him. You know what they say, we all hate to see someone who reminds us of ourselves. Nuf said. Except, as for the "Rodney is outcampaigning Haas everywhere", maybe Bubba hanging in wrong district. Been to virtually every (or almost every) block in 3-4 of the 6 Wards in the district, and time for the last 2 this week and weekend. My signs were a little late in arriving cause of the power outage, but I've got them now. No more details of my strategy, Bubba dog.
About my friend Rodney: as my ads say, "I love him like my brother, he's just a dog on the issues. He votes like a bad Republican. Even the unions wont support him. So if you're a Democrat, I should be your candidate!"
But that having been said, he'd have to be adjudged the favorite, and I dont have a problem with that. The more confident he is, the better chance I have. I'm running my campaign like I have a chance to win, and I believe I do. I've contributed and raised enough money to do the things I need to do. The last 10 days are just about campaigning, and I'm doing that.
If I win it'd be considered an upset (even if I'm close, really, tho close wont make me feel much better), but I cant think of anyone who deserves it more than I.
And finally, dont mind sharing the email I wrote Rodney earlier today:
"When I see one of your signs knocked down, I put it back up. Usually put one of mine next to it.
Want to have dinner election day, 830 or 9:00pm, my treat, as the friends we'll always be?
Win or lose, I'd be glad to come to your gathering to show my respect, and you're always welcome at mine.
best, your buddy Bill"

and other finally, appreciate the damning with feint praise that the ACC gave me in their editorial endorsing Rodney, and the courtesy of the headsup call from them that they were about to make a fool of themselves, but all I can say is that I love Dave like my brother, but as I told him myself, he must have different values than I have, and I'll miss his friendship.
On the other hand, it's always hard to bet against the incumbent, and maybe I shouldnt be so sensitive. Now where is that enemies list when I need it?
kind regards to all, Bill Haas

Who wins the pool on when Haas would respond?

Actually, I have my friend Joe Palm to thank for mentioning these threads to me. I normally only read good newspapers.
I kid, I tease, I having a little fun with you.
Actually dont read it anymore, tho I guess I'll try to stay abreast of this thread now, but it's all good.
Bill
ps I had an email from my webmaster, a wonderful high schooler named Samuel Gearhart, who said there was a post that we didnt have a disclaimer on the website that my campaign paid for it. I actually did ($50 so far), so a disclaimer I'm not sure was required, but we put one anyhow.
And he said that there was a post somewhere that I called Rodney's wife to encourage him to get out of the race? Oh please, someone's embarrassing their family again: first, does that letter to Rodney sound like I would do something like that, and all I have is Rodney's cellphone, and last I called it, several weeks ago, voicemail was full.
best all, stay in the moment, and try to concentrate on good and valuable things today, as I am: running Sweetie the dog, swimming, losing weight, church if I can make it, campaigning, staying in the moment, being the best I can be, and staying peaceful like Quai Chang Kane.
BH
and where are these posts if not on this thread?
and for those interested, they can check out Post Dispatch voters' guide: I have about 10 issues on mine; I'm not generalizing, but Rodney has few if any, just broad generalities. I'll resist the temptation to say that's because he's waiting to see who's going to contribute to him (do-sponsored the voucher bill soon after receiving $7000 from the Walton family funded voucher PAC), and just say that he needs better writers.

Show Me the Money!!!

Were the signs held up by 9/11, before the power outage?

Posted by TimR on Mon., Jul 31, 2006 at 11:35 AM

===Show Me the Money!!!

I believe the prize wasn't money, but a chance to have a cup of coffee with Bill at the Coffee Cartel.

Posted by ArchPundit on Mon., Jul 31, 2006 at 11:59 AM

Just my luck... though I do love that Crimson stream of conscience with the Bulldog accents.

Wait a minute, I don't have to pay for the coffee, do I?

Posted by TimR on Mon., Jul 31, 2006 at 12:42 PM

LOL--who else is going to pay?

Posted by ArchPundit on Mon., Jul 31, 2006 at 1:15 PM

LOL,LOL,LOL, oh my gosh I just spit Diet Dr. Pepper through my nose all over my keyboard. Rep. Hubbard's Post endorsement, coupled with the fact that he is one of the most dedicated hard working elected officials for the North Side are why our entire region needs Rodney in Jeff City!

Posted by Bubba on Tue., Aug 1, 2006 at 12:21 PM

Oh great. Now I have to pay to have Bubba's keyboard cleaned. ArchPundit, I am never going to enter another one of your contests again.

Posted by TimR on Tue., Aug 1, 2006 at 12:34 PM

Bubba says: I won the bet as to how long it would take for Billy to respond. I am waiting at the Mental Health Dept. So blog on brother Haas.

Posted by Bubba on Wed., Aug 2, 2006 at 10:15 AM

Bubba still waiting for you Billy...Hey who were those three african american gentlemen and one white guy that Rep. Hubbard caught stealing his campaign signs the other day? Stop having your nemesis' on the school board helping you defame and slander Rep. Hubbard's solid reputation. How about you join Rodney and me for dinner earlier on election day when the race is called at about 6pm?
