I am a resident of the 3rd aldermanic ward. I have seen petitions circulating for various issues, i.e. opposition to eminent domain, support battered women's shelters. There was nothing uneventful about these petitions, however, the red flag came up while entering the Family Dollar located at Grand and Carter in North City. My sisters and I were approached by a woman asking for signatures in an effort to support battered women. Good cause-until my sister questioned the fact,"why would a shelter for battered women need signatures? We dismissed the question until I saw the news concerning Alderman Boslely's recall. I was curious how so many signatures were acquired based on my personal knowledge of the sentiments of the majority of my family, friends, and neighbors. Sure there are some that do not share the majority's sentiments, but that amount of signatures was baffling.
Then it hit me-people did not have a clue that these were petitions for recalls! It is shameless the way the alderman's opponents deceived people in the 3rd Ward. If the recall was valid, like it or not, that would be the reality. However, the deceit employed was offensive. Thank goodness those signatures are being challenged. Those signatures were signed by people that were not informed of the purpose of those petitions.
Sincerely,
L. D. Ramsey, USN (retired)
Now when is Bosley going to get to work on development in the third ward? Twenty-eight years is long enough for us to wait!
The majority can't be the bunch of stupid hicks that Bosley treats us like.
Posted by third on Wed., Jul 12, 2006 at 9:38 PMA better question is when is the third ward going aid in development of the 3rd ward. Since I have returned to St. Louis, I have seen major improvements in the ward. There are grassroots citizens that are not looking for a "savior" but rather taking matters into our own hands.
Yes, no one listens to us downtown. so we stop calling-no! We need to keep calling, keep complaining, contract the Post, the St. Louis American, the St. Louis Argus.
We are taxpayers and not victims! I absolutely refuse to be victimized. Who is Boseley? One man who has a 24 day like we all do. We are the ones who have to make things happen.
This is not a defense for Boseley, but a request that all 3rd ward residents immobilize on any issue-pick one. There are an array of problems to chose from, after picking one-GET PASSIONATE.
