Paul Scoville has stepped away from the Boykins campaign. He's taking some personal time and then will work full-time for Gen Frank after the primary.
I expect to see the reason in the Boykins campaign June 30 report. If Boykins didn't keep up her earlier fundraising pace, she's toast.
If Boykins fades, El-Amin stands a chance to win enough of the north side vote to win the whole thing.
Maybe Nia knows. . . .
Posted by St Louis Oracle on Fri., Jul 7, 2006 at 5:28 PMDo you think the Boykins campaign was ever about money? They focus on getting their peolple to the polls. I think they have a real chance given the anticipated turnout. They may have trouble paying bills however, I think on election day she will have her folks voting. This is a great race!
Posted by john on Fri., Jul 7, 2006 at 9:18 PMWell, they seem to have thought it was about money early on, when Tucci and Ribaudo raised some pretty impressive bucks for the campaign. The problem for Boykins is that El-Amin seems to have taken away the perceived momentum.
Money means the ability to send quality campaign literature by direct mail district wide. Without it, you're not competitive.
Posted by St Louis Oracle on Fri., Jul 7, 2006 at 11:50 PMThe race only begins August 8th, St. Louis Oracle. Wait until after election day, there will be battles everywhere between everybody. There are going to be more enemies than friends and this will get worse before it gets better. The best thing to do is to stay out of the way of the storm. There is so much disloyalty going on, people being controlled by that dollar.
Some will try to kiss and make up, but not after you have kissed someone with bad breath. Nobody wants to kiss someone after they find out they have bad breath. We have some stinky breath syndrome in St. Louis, so there won't be much kissing going on after August 8th.
They call some politicians YUCKMOUTH, because they won't brush their teeth! Some politicians will want a September kiss right before they try to win their elections in November, but they have STINKY BREATH too. If they don't want to kiss now, forget about kissing after August 8th!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by Northside Boss, Jr. on Sat., Jul 8, 2006 at 12:21 AMI have never seen so many kissing/bad mouth metaphoric terminology posted on a political blog. However, I think Jr. has a relevant point. This primary has already gotten ugly. With August 8th rapidly approaching, the fireworks are bound to become more explosive. Just wait until Jeff Smith's documentary opens in St. Louis less than two weeks before the primary and brings the intense fan fare it has garnered throughout the country. He keeps gaining momentum and adding volunteers and raising the most money--a sure sign of remaining the frontrunner gate to gate!
Posted by Bubba on Sat., Jul 8, 2006 at 7:40 AMSome expect that Rep. El-Amin will drop out of the race just before the primary and seek a job with Rep. Boykins if she wins. Others have said that Rep. El-Amin hates Rep. Boykins too much for that, and that Rep. El-Amin has too much pride to drop out. So, it looks like all 5 are in it to the end.
As far as negative campaigns, the only two that have run anything negative are Rep. El-Amin and Rep. Boykins. I've heard nothing negative from Jeff Smith, Derio Gambaro, or Kenny Jones. So, after the next Senator is announced on August 8, some bridges may have been burned by those two ladies that they just can't cross to get a job.
It is sad that this race has gone negative at all, because it just wasn't necessary. This should have, and could have, been a race of ideas and a plan for the future, but instead some want to attack others based on divisive issues, like race. The attacks seem to have quieted down, but this just may be the quiet before the storm.
