According to ACCer Brian Werner, there are about six people who form the core of the Roddy Recallers, and they have collected approximately 200 signatures so far. This is a fraction of the 1,485 needed, but they feel good considering they just started and are upbeat about the response they're getting. They're expecting the effort to take about six months or so.
According to today's KWMU story, a recall petition signature drive may take up to 3 years, which is very worrisome. It would seem logical that signatures to such a petition should have been acquired within a more reasonable time period, such as 6 months.
Posted by travis reems on Mon., Jul 3, 2006 at 11:09 PMOh, and it's not worrisome that some asslicking alderman (In this case the the alderman from Barnes-Jewish, Joe Roddy) has held that office for decades? That he holds that office by playing on the fear generated by the Mason-Dixon line that runs right through the 17th Ward, mostly off his well developed absentee voter list?
Have you SEEN the 17th ward besides Manchester Ave? Why don't you take your yuppie blinders off for awhile!
Oh yeah, your blog is lame, too!
Rat:
I agree with your comments here and on STL League that divisive politics and segregation are very worrisome. And, as I wrote on my blog, one of the major ailments of St. Louis that we must address for progress in our city.
My comments were obviously mistaken as support for a specific office holder, which is not what was intended. I believe that mass recalls occuring within our city may lead to a destabilizing effect on our city government.
You obviously have very strong convictions about these issues, which is great. If you are a resident of the 17th ward, which I've been through many times, I would urge you to exercise your franchise by running in the next race for the seat.
