Jackson back up after crash. This from campaign manager Paul Brown:
Hello Friends,
I am guessinging you all heard about our brush with death on the runway at Camdenton Airport Tuesday Night. We hit a deer seconds before takeoff at 130 miles an hour...Thank God Jack was at the controls. He knew just what to do and kept the plane from flipping over...We skidded more than 2,000 off the runway and went down an embankment, but the four of us are all okay, thanks to Colonel Jackson...
We are continuing on schedule in a rented plane with the "Veterans Property Tax Freedom Flights" on Wednesday and Thursday Weather permitting. Jack says the Veterans Message is just too important to keep him grounded...So please spread the word that we will be pressing on... Thank you all and thank the Lord Jack Jackson was our pilot!..If he can handle this just imagine what he will do in the State Auditor's office!
Current issue of ACC publishes internal Smith campaign poll that shows the 4th District race wide open with 37% of voters undecided. Smith and Boykins tied at 17%; El-Amin, 13%; Gambaro, 9%; Jones 6%. (Sample 401 likely Democratic primary voters. Margin of error +/- 4.9%).
FiredUp finds a funny MySpace entry from a former Blunt intern. Thanks StL DiatribeR.
And Larry points us to SurveyUSA where Talents numbers take a bad turn. (You can go into the crosstabs and look at different sub-groups. For example, it's interesting how seriously his support has eroded among church-goers.)
Were I Col. Jackson's campaign manager, I'd try to borrow the Claire-mobile. It's less flashy, but it has never "skidded more than 2000 feet off the runway."

Posted by driventowin on Wed., May 24, 2006 at 10:02 AMfrom paul brown's description, this jack jackson fella sounds like jesus, charles lindbergh, paul bunyan and einstein combined. when can i have the privilege of voting for this guy!?
Posted by diatriber on Wed., May 24, 2006 at 10:51 AMPerhaps Jack Jackson is one of Missouri's great pilots. But he is not one of this country's great pilots, as in National Aviation Hall of Fame caliber, though likely a greater pilot than President Mission Accomplished. If he is not one of this nation's great pilots, he cannot be "one of the world's great pilots" which would mean peer of Abbas Ibn Firnas, Jean-Francois Pilatre de Rozier, Yuri Gagarin, The Red Baron and Roy Brown, etc.
Thanking "the Lord Jack Jackson was our pilot" is in poor taste considering Missouri lost Mel Carnahan and Jerry Litton in plane crashes and Ron Brown, George Mickelson, John Tower, Henry Heinz, Mickey Leland, Jim Waltermire, George Collins, Nick Begich and Hale Boggs, and other politicians have also died in plane accidents. Acknowledging the Divine, OK. But the gist of Brown's comment is that Jackson was chosen by the Divine to be the instrument which saved Jackson and his passengers. That falls into the category of taking the Lord's name in vain (use for frivolous purpose, personal gain) in violation of the 3rd Commandment.
Posted by Howard on Wed., May 24, 2006 at 4:05 PMHoward, get over yourself. I know Paul Brown and he never insinuated anything about Mel or any of the others that have suffered an untimely death due to a plane crash.
Col. Jackson is a highly decorated fighter pilot, flying several hundred missions in Vietnam. I don't see where anyone claims Jack to be one of the "world's best". No one is saying he is Yuri Gagarin, so stop finding a reason to cry about it. However, it takes nerves of steal to be a test pilot, just because his record and exploits haven't been the subject of some trumped up book or some PR push doesn't mean his skills are any less than some of those you named.
And as far as violating the third commandment, that is even a bigger stretch. Next Sunday when my priest gives thanks to the Lord for something, I will be sure to stand up and shout blaspheme!!! How ridiculous is that, Howard get a life!!!
"Jack is one of the world's great pilots, and he knew what to do," Brown said.

It's a friggin opinion. He wasn't stating Jack Jackson is the world's greatest pilot as a statement of fact. He was stating this as someone who was in a plane that could have easily crashed and he is thanking the pilot.....and yes he works for him.
Get over yourselves. Democrats will never win another office until they get over this crybaby BS and pointing at everyone else without offering anything of their own in return
Posted by get over yourself on Thu., May 25, 2006 at 11:04 AMDid anyone catch the story about Mr. El-Amin and his back child support? If this guy wants to make laws will the first on his list be to give amnesty to dead beat dads? This guy needs to learn that it is family first not politics.
Posted by Doug on Thu., May 25, 2006 at 11:54 AMOK. Now I understand. Whenever Jackson's campaign manager speaks we are to take it as just his opinion. Sorry for causing confusion.
Posted by Howard on Thu., May 25, 2006 at 12:10 PMYou cannot read a lot of your stories, because you have banners that cover half of the language. Frustrating.
Posted by jr on Thu., May 25, 2006 at 4:15 PMHoward, I'm no expert on aviation, but I know Jack Jackson is an exemplary pilot and definitely one of the best around. He has more hours flying the Harrier than anyone in the world. The Harrier is the plane that hovers and has been in the 4th of July airshows at the Arch...with Jack as its pilot. The Harrier is known for being pretty unstable to fly and takes great training, experience, quick reactions and nerves. In my opinion that backs up Paul Brown's statement that Jack Jackson is one of the world's great pilots as not only opinion, but probably fact.
Jack is also known for his straight-talking honesty in the Legislature.
Posted by Independent Observer on Thu., May 25, 2006 at 9:23 PMIsn't anyone concerned about the obvious Republican cover-up here. Jack Jackson took a deer out of season and not one word from the Conservation Commission!
Posted by SPSLE on Thu., May 25, 2006 at 11:34 PMSPSLE, I heard that the cause of death for the deer was ruled a suicide because the deer ran out in front of the plane. So Jack was let off the hook on this one...lol.
Posted by Purple Leader on Fri., May 26, 2006 at 8:28 AMPurple Leader and I have found something to agree on. I think the suicidal deer theory is totally reasonable. Deer have gone mad with fears about a return to inhumane catch & release. Deer are also not too bright. Maybe Town & Country could arrange to park some planes within its borders and suicidal deer would charge them and, well, Bambi Burgers for everyone.
Posted by Howard on Fri., May 26, 2006 at 2:22 PMHoward & Purple Leader, you're piecing together the truth, but you need a few more "inside" facts. First, don't think "suicidal", think "terrorist". Second, whose Senatorial district includes Town & Country? Do you see? This was not a local Camden County deer; this was a specially home-schooled, fanatically religious, west St. Louis County deer out to eliminate competition in a certain state-wide race. Don't believe me, just follow the salt blocks from Camdenton to Ballwin.
