Badges? We don't need no...oh? We do?

Though Missouri passed the photo ID bill, we aren't likely yet free of the debate. Hotline is reporting that Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-KY, added an amendment that would require a photo ID in all federal elections.

Unlike the Missouri bill, it would not take effect until January 1, 2008.

I still don't understand what all the hubbub is about with requiring photo ID's. I can't even use my credit card at Lowes without someone asking for identification. Why should something as important as voting not require a similar safeguard? The only ones who have anything to fear about photo ID's are those that have continued to try and taint the system for their own selfish purposes.

I continue to be shocked and saddened by comments such as yours. There are many thousands of people among us who do not have the luxury of having a credit card. They don't have cars so they do not need driver's licenses. They do not fly, even on Southwest Airlines, anywhere. Many of our fellow citizens do not have any need for a photo ID including many low income Missourians, the disabled and the elderly. Please show some sensitivity to those who are less fortunate than you.

Strangely enough, many people who are poor and/or disabled don't find themselves at Lowe's very often and they participate in a cash based economy with the local check cashing storefront being the closest thing to a bank they ever see.

The larger question no one wants seems concerned with is whether there is actually fraud occurring in the form of people voting more than once and whether voter ID requirements would stop that from occurring. Most vote fraud appears to be of the form of false registrations with very few actual votes cast if any, under those registrations and then the buying of votes as in East Saint Louis.

Before one can assert there is some massive fraud tainting the system, it should actually be established that such a thing is occurring.

Well, Larry, Republicans don't want to bother with just such an inquiry because they might not like the answer they get.
