StL DiatribeR links to the latest Rasmussen Poll
For the third straight month, 17% aren't picking either candidate, down from 7% when Rasmussen started polling. McCaskill's attempts to appease the right cause her to be perceived (correctly) as someone who stands for nothing but her own personal ambition. Talent's perceived waffling on stem cells hurts him in much the same way; it's no accident that he took a 3-point lead right after taking a definitive stand against the stem cell initiative. (The majority of those favoring the stem cell initiative weren't going to vote for Talent anyway, and stem-cell supporters who back Talent aren't single-issue voters.)
This could be the biggest election for independent and third party candidates since Ross Perot.

Posted by St Louis Oracle on Wed., May 17, 2006 at 2:37 PMMcCaskill stands for nothing?!?!? I think you got her confused with Jim "can't make a decision" Talent. The last thing anyone would call Claire is indecisive.
Good luck with your information campaign, Oracle.
Posted by Jack Louis on Wed., May 17, 2006 at 3:03 PMMcCaskill's and Talent's numbers are both going down. His decline would be, at least in part, attributable to a bad environment for Republicans nationally and in MO. To what can Claire's decline, if anything, be attributed?
Posted by modem on Wed., May 17, 2006 at 4:08 PMFor months, progressive Democratic groups have been trying unsuccessfully to get Claire to come to our groups to visit us and to tell us where she stands on the major issues of the day. Individuals have been visiting her campaign headquarters for months, explaining they would like to volunteer to help her campaign, but first they want to know where she stands on important issues of the day.
So far there has been no response...
Meanwhile, Progressive volunteers who are eager to spend many hours working on campaigns, are finding candidates to help who are very clear about where they stand.
Posted by numen on Wed., May 17, 2006 at 8:50 PMClaire who???? The reason why Claire's numbers are going down because she has not secured her base! I have barely seen her in the city...and I have no idea what she has done for our city! She better get with it and leave those out state fools alone---
