The Mayor has made a lot of appointments to reward South Side constituents that were loyal to him. South St. Louis has everything, the Collector of Revenue, Recorder of Deeds, City Assessor, the Mayor, President of the Board of Alderman, Police Chief, Fire Chief, Street Commissioner, Refuse Commissioner, Director of Parks, Recreation, and Forestry, Director of Personnel, Building Commissioner, Parks Commissioner, Forestry Commissioner, Sheriff, and the list goes on and on! Why can't the City of Saint Louis have more balanced geographical representation in City Government? Are there any people capable of representing the City of Saint Louis, outside of South and Central St. Louis? Why aren't the current political leaders from areas other than South and Central St. Louis speaking out about fair representation? Saint Louis needs to wake up and diversify, how about talking about that Donald Wolff, Carol Daniel, Sylvester Brown, and any other journalist that acts concerned about inequality!!! We need to be fairly represented in this City of Saint Louis by all that dwell in the City of Saint Louis!!!! By the way, we do have Hispanics, Asians, Bosnians, and other ethnic minorities in South St. Louis, and they don't get fair representation either although they live in South St. Louis. What a messed up City, this needs to change RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you think Slay is even pretending to be North St. Louis' mayor?

Yes, last year he received the endorsement of every northside alderman except Smith. So he's the mayor for the northside's clowns, thugs and chumps -- but what about others?

As for Bosnians in government, that'll be the day. Slay's base is probably still worried about smokehouses.

How long is it going to take for Cathy Ruggeri-Rea to piss off everyone including the mayor?? She is a bull in a china shop and dosent know when to quit. Good for Favazza he needed her like a drowning man needs water.

Um, while Fire Chief Sherman George is a long-time Carondelet resident, he was not appointed by Mayor Slay. Indeed, the Slay administration has had more than its share of conflicts with Chief George, as noted on many occasions in the Political Eye.

And if I'm not mistaken, Police Chief Joe Mokwa (who is of course not appointed by the mayor but by the Police Board), lives in Wydown-Skinker near the Clayton line. That ain't the Southside.

Also, the Collector of Revenue, Recorder of Deeds, Sheriff, and President of the Board of Alderman are separately elected officials. They are not appointed by the mayor. While I agree the concentration of officials in certain neighborhoods may have impacts on policymaking, let's focus on mayoral appointments.

One Bosnian - Damir Huskic - has obtained the lucrative South Kingshighway Fee Office from the Blunt administration. I'm not saying this particular decision is necessarily a good thing, but they are more and more integrated into the fabric of the Southside.

Bosnian with a fee office? That means the Republicans have made their way into that community also. Or, maybe the connection starts with daddy Roy Blunt with a directive to Baby Blunt. Afterall, those who get these contracts have serious political connections and/or have donated beaucoup money. Fee offices are pay offs.

As an independent voter who eyes both parties with the same concerns, suspicions, and dismay at times, it appears to me hypocritical to view one party's inroads into the Bosnian community any less questionable than the other.

There's a great principle in the New Testament that in effect says to remove the mote from one's own eye before attempting to remove the beam in another's eye. Democrats are lousy critics of Republicans and vice versa. Stick to the issues and leave the partisan whining out of public discourse.

Let's face it--Slay represents two major groups--Civic Progress Republicans thinly disguised as Democrats--and the same racist, neo-nazi crowd that has run South St. Louis since the Dred Scott days of infamy. He has no intention of representing the majority of the taxpayers. Slay's 'mandate' is to finalize 'the 70's plan' for the North Side. He's here to rid the city of lower income and minority citizens who happen to be in the way of the previously mentioned power brokers. As for Mokwa; how many ways can you say 'yes man'. Mokwa, in my opinion, makes sure that 'trouble-makers' (ie. read civic activists intent on publishing the truth)--are met with armed and violent resistance. They don't call them STORMTROOPERS AND BROWN SHIRTS FOR NOTHING.
It's time to stop merely complaining about lost civil liberties and begin to reclaim a semblance of democratic government. It's time to begin a STEALTH RECALL PETITION CAMPAIGN AGAINST SLAY. You can either complain or you can take positive action.
