Last Day of Filing

Some bits:

Mark Bishop, Democrat, is filing today for Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney. He's been Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in St. Louis County for Bob McCulloch.

Any relation to Lamar's famous son Harry?

And going into today, a quick check at the SOS page shows that of the 163 house seats there are 27 Republicans running without Democratic oppostion. Conversely there are 42 Dems running without Republican opponents. Those numbers look good for the Dems.

It just means the vast majority of state house districts either lean Republican or largely Democratic. But hopefully, with the Bush/Blunt fallout, those rare toss-up districts might change to the likewise rare lean-Dem category.

I wish I could say that the Repubs just can't find anyone to run, but the Dems are at such a disadvantage that nearly the only thing they have left are Dem safe districts, so the gap in numbers don't mean much.

Still, 42 is over 25% of the House. That's a helluva head start towards majority. But lots of candidates file on the last day. It's tomorrow's count that matters.

Apparently, Judi Parker has withdrawn from the race in the 2nd Cong. District.
