my apologies. I've changed it.

People have lost interest in politics. When I was younger, a ward meeting with fewer than 50 attending would have been a disappointing turnout, even for some Republican ward clubs. Today, 47 people is a "packed house" for an active Democratic ward club with a close election as a draw.

I wouldnt say that folks have entirely lost interest in politics. I managed to get out ten of my "young" friends for the mtg- they also joined and were excited by what was going on.

As long as people can truly see a direct correlation between what their polticians are doing and how it effects them then people will be involved.

I think we're lucky in that we have an organization that is really open and allows us to interact so closely with our elected officials. I'm not sure how the other organizations draw but I'd bet it would be roughly the same-at least I hope so..

Hey, are you one of the Sorrow's Wieses?

Sorrow's Wiese's? Huh? I'm from the Wiese clan of North City and Florissant if that helps- you lost me brother-

shoot me an email offlist to figure this out, thus not boring the folks reading

He means OLS, Our Lady of Sorrows.

He's playing the "which parish do you come from?" brand of City politics, which obviously encourages openness and welcome to all.

I was mistaken. But Florissant to North City to 24th Ward is a fascinating migration pattern. How many generations back were your people in Florissant?

In the City, you are identified by ward, neighborhood, parish. Whether or not you belong to a ward organization, neighborhood association or parish is irrelevant. Hitting up newcomers at neighborhood meetings to work homecoming and fish frys and not caring if they are Catholic is a part of the local charm.

Ahhhhh I get it now. The Wiese side of the family lived in North City for the first 40 years, moved to Florissant/Ferguson area in the 60's and have lived their ever since. Very involved in the fish fry's and church- my aunts actually a nun who teaches in North City. TMI??

I'm 24th Ward and Clifton Heights and damn proud of it

We were very fortunate to have two great candidates for 24th Ward Committeeman and the election went off without a hitch. The meeting was packed but the voting members were only 47. We often have a crowd just observing how a "open ward" runs. Our meetings are very educational and timely. They don't seem to run on and become boring. We have good dialog and our members seem to welcome the chance to be meaningful participants.
We have been through an awful lot for a new organization with a recall and an aldermanic and a committeeman selection in 7 months. We are growing wiser by the meeting and it is going to depend on young but wise members like Chuck Miller and Josh Wiese to take us further into the future.
Chuck will be a great committeeman and Josh will be a considerable contributing factor to our success and we are so fortunate to have these type of individuals in our ranks.
The real beauty of the 24th Ward Regular Organization is that the floor decides on all endorsements. The is democracy as it's absolute best! We are proud of that !
