Would Kenny Jones be entering the 4th senate race to upset the voting balance? Perhaps a deal in the offing?

Smith has filed, too.

I can't wait to see what the Political Eye will say about Kenny Jones, especially after previously calling Maida Coleman a "spoiler" (when rumored to challenge McMillan) and most recently asking for the northside to unite behind one 4th State Senate candidate.

Does anyone know if the St. Louis City Board of Elections Commissioner is a paid position? Is it a City of State Office?

Posted by jeff Jones on Tue., Feb 28, 2006 at 3:49 PM

Coleman is OUT according to the fix. its official she wont be running for auditor and has endorsed Montee.

jJ: Election board positions are state positions, appointed by the governor, subject to confirmation by the state senate. I believe they are paid a very small amount (less than $10K) and may also get health insurance.

Interesting GOP filing: Charles Stadtlander, head of a GOP gay group (Log Cabin Republicans) has filed for the party's nomination in the 94th district for the seat now held by Democrat Jane Bogetto.

Boards of Election Commissioners are state positions required by state law for Kansas City, Jackson County, Clay County, Platte County, St. Louis County, St. Louis City. Governor appoints with advice and consent of Senate and choses chair and secretary from among commissioners. Each board may have no more than two commissioners from same political party. During term of office, a commissioner may not hold any statutory position within a political party or on a political committee, be a candidate for political office or hold any other public office. By state law, the St. Louis City commissioners receive a salary of $6000 per year, chair and secretary $7000, paid by the City.

In all other Missouri counties, there is an elected County Clerk or, in the case of St. Charles County, an elected Election Director created under their home rule charter. Counties with elected election authorities have the option under state law to change to a Board of Election Commissioners but this opportunity has not been embraced.

There is a Kenny Jones in the Missouri Lege, a Republican in the House representing 117th Dist, Moniteau and Cooper counties. I do not know if he is related to the Kenny Jones interested in the City's 4th Dist senate race.

I know Chaz from our time in ASUM together. An interesting filing indeed. He's from the Shreveport, LA area originally I believe. I'm curious to see whether he can put together a coalition to get elected and raise the cash. When he ran for SGA president @ UMSL he spent a record amount, including printing up yard signs. He's an interesting fellow and I'm looking forward to watching his race unfold.

In my opinion, despite the best efforts of Bill Clinton Young and Norma (Aunt Norma) Champion, 1992's Rich (Bullet Train) Pisani still retains the title of Most Intriguing Name On Ballot.

Posted by Howard on Tue., Feb 28, 2006 at 5:35 PM

at the time didnt he have to legally change his name to Bullet Train to get it on the ballot?

Posted by Ben DeClue on Tue., Feb 28, 2006 at 5:38 PM

There was some reluctance to permit Bullet Train on the ballot and he went to court and legally changed his name to Richard Thomas Bullet Train Pisani. It seems to me, it was shortened for the ballot but, at the moment, I cannot locate my 92-93 Blue Book to verify.

As I recall, that was also the first election with Aunt Norma on the ballot.

All I have to say is someone has finally rejuvenated my interest in Missouri politics. Boykins, Yaphett, Kenny and Derio on the same stage. I can't ask for better material than that (unless we can get Alan Keyes to run for something).

In response to Brian: the Political Eye won't touch Kenny Jones. Reason - he's a man and the PE only attacks white men, Republicans and black women, i.e., Lizz Brown, Sharon Tyus, Irene Smith, Maida Coleman. What do all these women have in common? They are intelligent, successful and a force to be reckoned with. Too much woman for the insecure and confused Don Suggs who only uses the American to spew forth his twisted agenda.

Um, well here's what the Political EYE says about Kenny Jones:

http://www.stlamerican.com/articles/2006/03/03/news/political_eye/politicaleye01.txt

And it should be noted that a number of strong women, such as Jamala Rogers and Carol Daniel, write for the American.

Isn't the conventional belief that Virvus Jones writes the EYE, not Dr. Suggs?

Posted by Joe Frank on Fri., Mar 3, 2006 at 3:11 PM

Nice try Joe Frank but did you actually read what the PE said about Kenny Jones? Did it threaten him as it did Senator Coleman and say that she would live to regret running for License Collector? No, the PE talked about Jones' issues with the El-Amin family and didn't even overly diss him because of election fraud and likely criminal investigation going on in the 22nd. It didn't mention his embrassing tirade to Mayor Slay that caused him to be fired either.

I stand by my comments - the black women that I mentioned were trashed by the PE. Kenny Jones was even complimented about his great accomplishment of being elected as an Independent back in the day. And, my sources tell me this - nothing goes in print in the American that Suggs doesn't approve. Likewise, you should know that the Jones boys, Virvus and Kenny - are tight. But then again, could it be that Kenny is not worthy of trashing because he is not a threat to other politicans like the women are? Does anyone have to worry about Kenny Jones ever winning another election?
