The two candidates are Chuck Miller and Josh Wiese. They each gave good, short speeches, and didn't get any questions (it was a light turnout).
Well, I don't know Josh but I do know Chuck Miller and I know he has a good working relationship with both Bill Waterhouse and his wife, Maria, who is the committeewoman. That's very important. Members of the Board of Aldermen should be able to trust that political and election work in their ward is being taken care of and that new people are being included in the ward....especially young folks. I would vote for Chuck if I lived there.
Posted by Margaret Campbell on Mon., Feb 27, 2006 at 12:52 PMOverall, both gentlemen seem well qualified for this position. I'm thinking that most of the 'powers that be' in the Ward organization are going to be backing Chuck. They want somebody who is experienced in politics and isn't going to rock the boat. Granted, Chuck seems to have a slight upper had experience wise, but I admire the energy, drive and 'guy next door' qualities of Josh. It seems like Chuck is looking to be elected Committeeman because he can use it as a stepping stone to higher level positions. This is fine and not an uncommon practice, but I think Josh is running because he genuinely wants to be Committeeman. He seems to care deeply about the neighborhood and the community, and wants to do his part to help maintain and make it even more desirable than it already is. I think this is great. It seems like the Democratic party is trying to shift back the grassroots base and involve ordinary people in politics again, and I think electing Mr. Weise is an excellent opportunity to showcase this return.
As I said before, however, both men are well qualified for this position, and I think either of them will do a fine job. They are both young, eager and experienced, which isn't all that easy to find in a place like the 24th Ward. We should all be grateful for both of their contributions to date, and lucky to retain them for the contributions they will make in the future

For the record, I have absolutely no desire to run for any other office, but I appreciate the support, Anne.
Josh is a good guy and says he wants to one day be a candidate for alderman. I think he has a very bright political future in city politics.
And in this race, I have no doubts that the 24th Ward would be well served no matter who wins.
Anne/Chuck -
Thanks for the kind words. My future as alderman will only happen if it needs to happen. Right now I'm concentrating on being the best candidate for committeeman that I can be and representing the organization as best as I can.
See ya both on the 22nd or before
