This is not what the pro-life groups in Missouri wanted to hear. They are going to be furious with this decision and I don't think they are going to accept the "compromise" proposed by sen. Talent. It will be very interesting to watch what groups line up against Talent in the coming weeks. It may be a real problem with the conservative base of the Republican Party that Talent needs to come out in force for him.

One of those Missouri pro-lifers checking in. Here's what I had to say on the matter:

By the way, if ACC is interested in any conservative/right-side input, I would be more than happy to participate/contribute. Being a St. Louis transplant, I really enjoy reading ACC, as it helps me get a better understanding on local politics and issues.

Talent is a wealthy suburban St. Louis attorney who was elected to the US Senate as a Republican. Seems like he's already a member of the "Danforth wing."

The real issue here is that this "flip-flop" shows us how Mr. Talent lacks any real convictions and how politically opportunistic he is. I guess you can't blame him it is an election year. Pander pander pander.....

You know he always was a weasel, this is no surprise.

I've never really understood the rush to label an elected official who changes his mind to favor your position a "flip flopper." If it isn't possible to learn something from public discourse and debate, why bother?

As reported on 60 Minutes this weekend, if politicians wish to prevent the destruction of embryos, where do they think the hundreds of thousands presently not used in fertility clinics end up? Even if frozen, when not used within a finite period, embryos are then essentially slowly destroyed. The vast number of embryos outside any womb or body, which are presently discarded, could instead provide life science cures.

I can still recall how angry my mother was with Congressman Gephardt when he switched his abortion stance when he ran for President the first time.

I'll be interested to hear what she has to say about Senator Talent's switcheroo.
