In combination, the Century could have looked cool too.

But given that the Ambassador and Buder/Title Guaranty were lost under previous administrations, I'll give Slay one downtown blunder too.

Rehab was not as economically feasible when the Ambassador fell, right before the availability of a state historic rehab tax credit. There is absolutely no excuse for the demolition of the Century Building, which happened in a time when appreciation for historic downtown buildings was high, the market value of such buildings higher than anytime in the last 25 years, developers with rehab experience were interested in the Century and the state historic tax credit was available. Supporting the demolition was quite a colossal blunder for Slay, and one that makes the other tear-'em-down mayors look reasonable in comparison.
