Kathryn Nelson died this past Thursday, January 26. A memorial service will be held for her on Saturday, February 4 at 4:00 PM at Christ Church Cathedral at 13th and Locust Streets in downtown St. Louis.
We expect to have more about Kathryn in our next print edition - February 7.
Saint Louis has lost a giant with the death of Kathryn Nelson. A warm, witty, compassionate and wonderful member of our community devoted her life to education and justice for all. I had the privilege of knowing and working with Mrs. Nelson for more than 15 years, and saw firsthand the power of her quiet but determined leadership. Her unassuming style belied her passionate understanding of the issues which divided our community, and her fierce commitment to positive change. She was equally comfortable before children and titans, and her cool demeanor could give even the most hardened cynic pause.
Thank you, Mrs. Nelson, for sharing yourself with us. You made a difference in the lives of so many in our community. There is no finer example of public service than that which you demonstrated every day.
