Case forwarded to the Attorney General.
Seems odd that Political Fix picked up on the increased contrib limits but not the cases against Bauer's 24th, Connie Johnson & 61st, and Claude Brown's DDIP.
Posted by Howard on Tue., Jan 24, 2006 at 1:27 PMWhat is the case against Bauer's 24th?
Posted by Margaret Campbell on Tue., Jan 24, 2006 at 1:30 PMI hope that the issue is Bauer's running a separate "continuing committee" while being a candidate. A ward organization does not qualify as a "party committee," so it is a continuing committee. The MEC has long taken the position that a candidate is prohibited from controlling a continuing committee. I personally believe that is a very strained interpretation of the governing statute, especially when potential criminal penalties could apply, and that it may also be an unconstitutional deprivation of free speech. It would be good for someone with Bauer's legal resources to have to handle this challenge.
Posted by St Louis Oracle on Tue., Jan 24, 2006 at 7:25 PMIf there were a case against Bauer in the matter of more than one committee, Bauer would be the party cited for the case. Instead, it appears to be a case involving his Club.
There was a case from St. Peter's regarding candidate committee + continuing committee sent by MEC to AG last November.
Whatever the case against the Club involves, it is bound to increase Bauer's word count on Wikipedia.

And good to keep him busy from launching lawsuits against other citizens...
Rimshot please.
