Twofer...

Over at the Political Fix blog, Jake Wagman pointed out that Alderman Fred Wessels was both the acting Mayor and the acting Board President today.

Alderman Joe Roddy joked with Wessels, suggesting Wessels might want to call an emergency meeting of the Board of Estimate and Apportionment. Roddy noted, "You have the votes." Wessels declined.

Whether Wessels could have pulled of the move is another question. I suppose we should be glad he doesn't have a secret plan he has been waiting for a time like this to unleash .

If you had the authority to potentially push through any plan you wanted, what would it be? Close the BOA? Reopen the Kiel to save downtown? Eliminate eminent domain? Enact stringent preservation laws? Rename the city after Chuck Norris?

From Jake's own blog, Fred seized his reign to sign a Board Bill (Florida's BB#310) making it harder for recall attempts. I wonder if Fred enrolled the bill in Shrewsbury's shoes or actually signed it as acting mayor.

Though this may have been coincidental timing, it does seem strange that a bill protecting Fred and his fellow alderholsers would be finally passed this way. But since requiring a charter change, City voters will still have the final say.

I would pass a few quick laws.
-Rename Market Street to Cubs Suck Avenue.
-Pass a law that the new ball park would have to be named something other than Busch Stadium...Budweiser Park (Bud Park), Michelobe Field (The Mic)
-Order the police to grow a pair and expand Mardi Gras down to 7th street...infact, shut down Seventh Street and allow vendor booths and stages to be set up with bars and live entertainment, make it more like a street festival.
-New law allowing people to address the Mayor by his first name.
-New law demanding that the highway be sunk between the landing and downtown/Wash Ave and must be covered. The Covered area will have street down the middle from the landing past the arch with large pedestrian friendly sidewalks and the buildings would be two or three stories. Apartments and offices on top and stores and resturants on the street level. This would hopefully become a Quincy Market type place like Boston and attract some high level stores.

- FINAL LAW - CITY AND COUNTY MUST MERGE AND ELIMINATE ALL REDUNDANT JOBS. All little individual city governments replaced by a streamline and efficient board of Aldermen that actually represent a proper number of citizens throughout the new combined St. Louis.

I would rename the city after Chuck Norris and then name Walker, Texas Ranger Chief of Police.

What would have to occur for Mariano Favaza to be Mayor???

A: St. Louis Hills would have to become its own City, with their City Hall likely replacing Nottingham School.

There's already an area town named after Norris: St. Chuck.

"Cubs Suck Ave." has a nice ring.

Better name for the new stadium: Fleeced Taxpayer Park.

If you mean by order of succession, I don't know. All that's necessary for Favazza to be elected Mayor is for Slay to move on to other things and allow the office to open up, for Favazza and about three other serious candidates (all progressive, 1 or 2 of them black) to file for the office, and for the three progressive candidates to just assume that Favazza couldn't win. On second thought, he would have a fighting chance one-on-one. (Remember, he unseated an incumbent that most ward organizations had endorsed.)

Oh, and enact Instant Runoff Voting (IRV).

I just double checked with Jake Wagman and he said that Wessels did sign the bill as Acting Mayor. Part of the issue may have to do with timing since it is supposed to be on the April ballot.
