El-Amin Quarters

Yaphett has a nice quarter. Okay numbers - 31k raised; 43k on-hand, including 11k in debt. But full of great names for mobilizing north side support - Piggee, Suggs, Bosley, Pearlie Evans.

Talibdin shows limited activity.

Okay, so combining recent posts on the 4th State Senate race, that translates into cash-on-hand:

Boykins: $44k
El-Amin: $43k
Gambaro: $40k

But what about Jeff Smith? A January 12th post said he'd likely have over $100,000 on-hand. Any confirmation?

Can Smith compete against such established St. Louis politicians and political families?

Pretty interesting horse race now. Four funded candidates.

And, don't worry about Jeff Smith and the establishment. An earlier post on this site touted Jeff's endorsement by Francis Slay, Sr.

Funny, that "Jeff Smith" and "establishment" would be mentioned in the same sentence. Afterall, we're talking about the candidate without any previous elected office that nearly won the Dem primary without any City endorsements.

And while elder Slay has come out for Jeff, hizzoner Slay has been very quiet. Frankly, I don't blame our Mayor, when this race will be very divisive, for hizzoner is likely trying to be a uniter.

Steffen isn't tapped out. He has more incs. Each can give up to $600.

You should start noticing that certain donors are not loyal to a single candidate. That's not unusual in a race involving more than one strong candidate.

A contrib on an expense report does not necessarily mean an endorsement and attendance at an event sometimes is merely a comp ticket eating and drinking on someone else's dime.

Howard notes that "a contrib on an expense report does not necessarily mean an endorsement"

Good thing, because by association, it appears (in French's PubDef) that friends of Slay are backing Boykins, while friends of Clay are backing El-Amin.

Agreed, publiceye.

Smith has got Slay Sr, Kratky, the Eagletons, and others on board and Boykins has a number on her side as well.

The only who seems to be lacking such support is Gambaro.

My guess the is Mayor will not endorse in the primary for the Senate seat--he didn't for the 3rd District race. He's always been very even handed with Jeff and Jeff appreciates that. That's more than Jeff could expect in many cases.

Jeff's on hand is $92,700
