Another Coffee Shop DT

Espresso Mod recently opened at the Paul Brown Building. The owner is Paul Charsley. They feature Chauvia coffee as well as pastries and sandwiches. They are also the only place in downtown to offer gelato.

Espresso Mod is located at 210 North 9th Street. Their hours are 6:30 a.m.
to 4 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

That is great news about the new store. I would really like to use it but I do not work downtown so by the time I get home they will be closed. Is there any way to convince these places to stay open in the evenings? At least on weekends?

Finally: gelato Downtown.

I went there a few weeks ago and enjoyed the latte that I had. The views of the Mark Twain Hotel and Frisco Building through the storefront windows are very cool. Hopefully the Ninth Street Park'n'Go won't cloud up the views.

GELATO!!!! If someone had told me about that sooner I would have been over there weeks ago!

As a vegetarian, I was very unimpressed with EspressoMod. None of the soups were vegetarian (including the tomato soup!) and they had one veggie wrap (nothing else of the lunch variety was vegetarian). I was disappointed with this but the lack of seating sucked too. They played a Christmas movie on MUTE (my favorite Christmas movie, no less) and then music came over the speakers (dumb idea altogether).

In the Summer if they are still around I will return for gelato, something I haven't had since I was in Portland, but so far I have no other reason to return to EspressoMod as a lunchtime locale.

Hey Lily,

Get a grip. Meat tastes good and if you don't eat it then suck it up and drink coffee at places like this. Food made for vegans usually sucks anyway. Next time order a black coffee and chew on your napkin.

Cows taste good.

Truly meaty tomatoes. It is a dream come true.

The comment thread has lost all sense of maturity. That is really too bad. I respect Arch Chronicle but not sure I will be able to respect the commenters.

Lily smells like doodoo.

HA HA I'm not mature!

Seriously, Lily, (if that is your REAL name) why would you respect any of us bloggers. Most of the time we are just kidding around.

Hey everyone Lily smells!

Do you know what tastes better than cow? Puppy dogs.

Lily,

I'm on your side. I'm vegetarian too and America, St. Louis in particular, is a little behind the times in offering vegetarian options. I'd much rather get coffee at a place that is more accomodating to different diets. Vegetable soup that isn't vegetarian is a sign of cheapness. Chicken or pork broth is cheaper than vegetable broth so a cheap owner will skimp if s/he doesn't care about catering to anyone but carnivores.

Let's cook Vihar and Lily and see if they taste good.

MEAT MEAT MEAT MEAT!!!!

I was joking about winter tomatoes. To find a meaty tomato this time of year, instead of mealy one, is quite a find. Sorry, if it offended anyone.

I'm a vegetarian, too, but I taste awful.

I believe the Gelateria at 1327 Washington Avenue also offers gelato.

The owner is a vegetarian, and their menu has grown. The reason they mute the movies is because of copyright laws.
