Hopefully, the very talented Maida will be able to be both frank yet invigorating with her speech.

What motive would she have for mentioning or not mentioning her financial past? It has already been spread over the news, airways and blogs? You can bet whatever she says, it will be from the heart, straight forward and truthful.

By not mentioning it, Maida allows others, including her opponents, to frame the discussion.

By far, the topic shouldn't dominate her speech, but she should at least take control and then quickly move on. Maida can achieve this tricky duality by briefly admitting her past, yet sharing in greater detail why she remains the best candidate.

Her opponents are going to frame the discussion anyway. I don't see the auditor's race getting a lot of coverage so the key will be energizing your people. Portraying your opponent as someone who got so far over her head that she declared bankruptcy is both accurate and damning. Is damning too strong? I agree with the American when they say that her personal finances are fair game.

Maida has a tough row to hoe.

That's all folks? Sympathy-sure. Who would want to get bashed over the head about this documented past--First in a primary where its an uphill fight... And then even worse in the general.....

I'm afraid it's the candidate with the most money who will dominate that debate. I know the Senator can speak honestly about her financial history and do it with integrity, but if there's insufficient funds to carry her through both a primary and a general, she will not be able to push her message through. Sad, but true.

She says she has the experience to be auditor because she has balanced her checkbook for many years. Well, we could look at her track record on that, but let's save the time.

Um...this candidacy is a trainwreck. Why is everyone afraid to call it like it is?

If there is a silver lining, I guess I'm happy that Montee's money didn't buy her an uncontested primary--that would be bad precedent for the party.

I hear there are some candidates who are looking to get back in the race after saying they would not run. The bankruptcy story and unimpressive start by Susan Montee may have some folks reconsidering.

So? What happened at the presser? Did she bail?

I agree it is a very unimpressive start for Sen. Coleman. As for the rest of the field, I am not one who thinks having money is a bad thing in a state wide campaign. However, taking money away from the equation who out there is actually the best candidate for this unique kind of office?

She really said her finances are a "mess" and that she has balanced her checkbook for years? Is Sen. Coleman serious? This is not a good thing for someone asking to be the top accountant for several billion dollars.

Because of this blog I went to Senator Coleman's press conference. I think that you folks making comments about her checkbook answer and her finances being a mess would be less likely to judge Senator Coleman if you'd heard the questions. First of all, the reporter (Kevin Killean) referred to the Senator's former financial problems as a "mess" when he asked her a question. Not Sen. Coleman. She responded that yes, she'd had some financial problems because of a loss of her job and then went on to explain that her credit was repaired and focused on what she has since achieved.

The same reporter then asked her a dumb question -"Do you know the difference between debits and credits?" To me, it's to Sen. Coleman's credit that she responded at all. Although the answer may not have been the best, it came off the cuff and was less nasty than the question. Jake Wagman did the Senator another injustice when he reported the answer and not the question.

It's interesting that Bulter's comments reference the Senator getting in over her head. Haven't you heard? She was unemployed?!!! And, with three children.

I heard Sen. Coleman speak on the radio this past Saturday morning about the P-D story. Very open and honest and......newsflash!!!.....when asked about her divorce noted that things would have been a lot easier for her children if their FATHER had been paying his child support!

A woman with integrity that didn't bash him all over the newspaper and has only referred to him when asked. Sounds like he's a loser to me. I'm beginning to change my mind about wanting Sen. Coleman to stay in this race. The only judge she should have is God, not people who haven't walked in her shoes.
