At least, like Bogetto, another seat will now go Dem. But that's likely to happen just due to Gibbons being termed-out, not if he succeeds as AG.
Posted by Brian on Fri., Nov 18, 2005 at 3:38 PMDoes anyone else think Gibbons is evil?
Some one needs to at least fix that awful haircut. Horrible, just horrible.
He is a bad, bad man with bad, bad hair.

You need to quit talkin' crazy. The 15th Senate District is not up till 2008. Barring a complete lack of a candidate to replace Gibbons or the GOP has led the state into the 7th level of hell, the Dems will not win that seat. The Bogetto/Byrd race was lost for three reasons 1)Bush-Blunt backlash 2)Weak GOP Candidate and 3)Special election turn-out. I will give you that Bogetto was a better candidate, but I wouldn't bet money on her re-election in November...
Gibbons' seat will have plenty of seasoned candidates eyeing that, and they will be well prepared to keep a Dem from winning it.
Kathlyn Fares, a so-called moderate Republican who is the state rep for Webster Groves, is termed in 2008 and I'm sure she'd be interested in moving on up.

DEM - JEANNE KIRKTON 43,647 46.35
REP - MICHAEL R. GIBBONS 48,876 51.90
The Kirkwood state senate seat, us, Democrats should win in 2008 when Gibbons is term- limited. If we had a Charlie Cook or Stu Rothenberg in Missouri instead of DC, they would be handicapping the seat as leaning Democratic.
It is a district where the female gender is a positive net gain of at least 2-3% of the votes. Plus it is a guns and babies district where Democrats can be for gun control and pro-choice. It is three years away but Jeanne Kirkton should be our candidate.
As for Brian, if you though the other week's election results were bad, just see what happens to your favorite political party next November. Ya'll will not be bottom until November, 2008.
In January, 2009, can you say Speaker Jeff Harris? and the Democrats in the state senate will have 15 seats,(under this redistricting, the best Democrats could do is 17 seats), and a guy in Jeff City will be called Governor Jay Nixon.
Of yea the . . .
The Attorney General race should be interesting Gibbons vs. Robin Carnahan.
Jeane Kirkton should run against Katherine Fares this time. She'd be a great candidate.
Posted by Joe on Sat., Nov 19, 2005 at 10:50 AMDems should probably hold off against Fares in 2006. She is easily the most progressive Republican in the legislature, so Dems don't gain much from the big bucks it would take to try to knock her off. Besides, she will be term-limited in 2008, and that's when the seat will be theirs for the taking.
Posted by St Louis Oracle on Sat., Nov 19, 2005 at 9:00 PMThe oracle is right . We Dems should keep our powder dry till '08 in the Webster senate race. Fares is as good if not better on progressive issues than some out-state Dems. Fares will be term limited and the seat WILL go blue with Kirkton. Fares will be retired to the side lines with her moderate views by the far-right shift of the MO GOP.
Posted by Morgan on Sat., Nov 19, 2005 at 9:53 PMI just don't think Kirkton is the right candidate for the 15th. she's a great person, but even with an empty seat, I don't think she appeals to the right folks and can much more easily be portrayed as left wing by the R's. There are plenty of good candidates in that District without having to go with someone who has already been rejected by voters. We need new blood, not blood that has lost once. IT is the same old pattern that Dems show, if you lose, it makes you automatically a frontrunner...not a good idea.
