i can't believe that one of charlene prost's last stories was that dreadful non-news piece on the new tenant lineup at the old post office. she's too good to have been squandered that way. she's doing the right thing.

how much did stogel pay for that pr?

Posted by fly on Tue., Oct 25, 2005 at 10:33 AM

There are some important by-lines in that group. They'll be missed by readers.

Posted by publiceye on Tue., Oct 25, 2005 at 11:28 AM

Now that the Post has some partisans retiring, I would like to see them hire a conservative ombudsman so that the paper could be challenged when they are not objective and very biased and misleading in their news and editorials.

Posted by Carol on Tue., Oct 25, 2005 at 11:41 AM

Editorials are supposed to take a particular point of view and not be completely objective.

Posted by stlguy on Tue., Oct 25, 2005 at 12:20 PM

Carol, the Post Disgrace is not some "Liberal Rag" like all of you Right wing Nut Jobs claim. I will not dispute the fact that it is not a very good paper but it still reports facts and you repubs just hate facts. Facts upset you people so any paper that prints them you guys attack. Shut up sit down and try to understand that some of these departing reporters are quite good at their job no matter how much you freaks hate them for reporting facts. Go home and watch your Fox "News". Also, please stop voting, you are ruining my country.

Posted by dude on Tue., Oct 25, 2005 at 12:46 PM

Its difficult for me to understand Carol's comment when you see what management did to Reporter Tuft when her majesty, Jesus's left hand women, Joyce $ Meyers complained.

Posted by Norman Pressman on Tue., Oct 25, 2005 at 1:03 PM

the post left wing???

this paper goes to bat for francis slay, fer chrissakes.

Posted by fly on Tue., Oct 25, 2005 at 1:58 PM

stlguy - not talking about the editorial page - they admit to liberal a bias - I have met w/ them. I'm talking about the rest of the paper.
And "Dude" wake up and smell the coffee and get off your liberal hate-smear websites - they are destroying our country.

Posted by Carol on Tue., Oct 25, 2005 at 2:24 PM

Carol - "liberal hate smear" websites like this one?

Comment: I loved yourarticle. I think we downplay terrorism because the Dems know that what happen in Neapol could happen here very easily and it may come to that. Also, as far as the french, I predict that within 20 years France is ruled by a Muslim and it will become a "muslim" country.

Posted by diatriber on Tue., Oct 25, 2005 at 3:19 PM

I have said this before. I also believe that France will be ruled by a Muslim within 20 years. There is a good book out on how the Muslims are taking over Europe. They say that will happen in the next 50years. Think about it -they are anti-abortion and killing non-Muslims as fast as they can.

Posted by Carol on Tue., Oct 25, 2005 at 3:22 PM

"Think about it -they are anti-abortion and killing non-Muslims as fast as they can."

Wow, I'm not even sure where to go with that one. Who is anti-abortion and killing non-muslims again? France?

But more importantly does that mean Bordeaux will get cheaper or more expensive?

Posted by diatriber on Tue., Oct 25, 2005 at 3:33 PM

Hey dude - don't forget to watch Fox tonite - I call it the news the Post is afraid to print.

Posted by Carol on Tue., Oct 25, 2005 at 3:33 PM

I was watching some Fox earlier and you are right. I am now a Republican. I now hate black people and Jewish people and gay people and I think women should be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen. Screw the minimum wage and screw workers rights. Thanks Carol. Thank you for setting me straight.

Hey look! Because I am now hateful and a bigot I now can act like I am rich. I may be in debt up to my eyeballs but I can act like I am a real Republican. I have no personal responsibility for my actions and due to my voting against my self interest I am dooming myself and my family to a life of debt and waste, with little or no hope of advancing in life. THANK YOU CAROL!!! THANK YOU RUSH!!! THANK YOU REAGAN!!!! Personal responsibility is for the poor and for single mothers living below poverty level not me I'm rich, haven't you seen my leased SUV?
THANK YOU CAROL!!!

Posted by dude on Tue., Oct 25, 2005 at 3:52 PM

"dude" -- you need someone to blame for everything that is wrong in your world. Fox News can help you with that. Otherwise you might blame yourself.

Posted by diatriber on Tue., Oct 25, 2005 at 3:57 PM

Dude - you are hoot with issues! But I must inform you that you were "hateful" before you even watched Fox and became a Republican. Welcome to the fold - isn't it great?

Posted by Carol on Tue., Oct 25, 2005 at 7:29 PM

diatriber-follow along. The Muslims are anti-abortion and kill non-Muslims - capice?

Posted by Carol on Tue., Oct 25, 2005 at 7:31 PM

I forgot to mention that I was dissapointed not to see Eric Mink on that list. I guess he knows he won't find a job anywhere else - Air America maybe? He has quit writing Commentaries for the Post. I guess as they say, "if you have nothing nice to say...don't say anything at all." He says he doesn't write editorials either. Don't exactly know what he's doing there these days really.

Posted by Carol on Tue., Oct 25, 2005 at 7:45 PM

if 100% of all muslims are anti-abortion and 100% of all muslims kill non-muslims, then i guess at least christian fetuses are safe for the moment.

maybe that's were eric mink is hiding out these days?

Posted by diatriber on Tue., Oct 25, 2005 at 9:30 PM

hate to tell you carol, but the city of st. louis is politically liberal, and this newspaper/website covers local politics and issues with a left-leaning angle.

why are you here?

Posted by stanthecan on Tue., Oct 25, 2005 at 11:06 PM

I've never understood the criticism of the Post as some sort of liberal bastion in St. Louis. As if the ed-board meetings channeled in Emma Goldman for guidance while drinking free-trade coffee form hand-made Peruvian coffee mugs.

I think the concept of a paper's editorial positions and its role as a communicator of important news as two complementary but separate missions as pretty straightforward. It's not an easy balance, but the Post has done a reasonably good job. In fact, what may be efforts to placate accusations of a liberal bias have lead them to publish commentaries that range from the vituperative to the factually fudged.

The reporters and editors I have talked to and dealt with may have, in general, leaned to the left, but only in that, "recycling and public education are good," type of lefty thought. We are not talking about nationalizing Anheuser Busch and Tums. They have struck me as professional and more interested in accurately reporting a story than anything else.

I must confess though, I occasionally enjoy an inflammatory, inaccurate, uncredited, blanket statement. Too bad those don't pass muster for professional editors.

(disclaimer: I have, on occasion, written freelance pieces for the Post)

Posted by Matthew Murphy on Wed., Oct 26, 2005 at 2:43 AM

To all you city liberals - so much for diversity and freedom of speech. I don't agree with you and the Post's views so I should shut up. The Post tells me that they have a wide range of readers as is obvious looking at the wide range of addresses represented in the letters to the editor. The truth is, there are many conservatives in the city of St. Louis. The problem is that the diverse community has NO Republican candidates to represent them. That is really sad. I know because I worked on the Bush campaign and these people were upset that there were no Bush campaign offices or signs in the city. I think in a one-paper town that other than the editorials, the Post should only objectively report the news without every journalist editorizing or relying on incompete biased AP stories. I can't help but wonder if the reason there are so many Democrats in the city is because of the slanted views of the Post. Kind of a which came first, the chicken or the egg deal.

Posted by Carol on Wed., Oct 26, 2005 at 10:05 AM

Carol,
You speak of how horrible the paper here is but you cite the same "facts" as conservatives in any city that does not have a right wing biased "newspaper". Seriously, you guys are no longer fooling anyone. Your claims of a "liberal" media has forced all main stream media so far to the right just to satisfy you nut jobs that yes the quality has decreased. In order to write a story with a right wing slant most articles must use fuzzy facts to justify a right wing main idea. Whenever a paper uses facts that right wingers don't like then they are liberal but if that same reporter finds something wrong that a democrat did then it was just good reporting. You people are destroying my country and I hate every single one of you for it. I am a devote Catholic and I have talked to Jesus and boy is he sick of you guys using his name for your personal and political gains.

The meek shall inherit the earth. Treat others as you want to be treated. Turn the other cheek.

Republicans love to stick religion in your face every chance they get but the moment the Beatitudes are mentioned they shut up or change the subject.

The GOP will all burn in hell for how they treat others. Deny it all you want but I talked to JC and he ain't happy with you folks, not happy one bit.

Posted by dude on Wed., Oct 26, 2005 at 10:43 AM

So now the AP is liberally biased too?

Carol, you are too much.

And what part of "I worked on the Bush campaign" makes you think you gain credibility?

Posted by Scoop on Wed., Oct 26, 2005 at 10:48 AM

Carol - maybe you should start up a new conservative newspaper! But then again maybe there is a reason the Sun and the Globe Democrat (!) are no longer around?

Do you really think that 90% of StL City voted for Kerry because the Post Dispatch told them to? Or could it be a certain type of person is drawn to live in the city vs the county vs rural MO? Come to think of it, Kerry even won StL county by 50,000 votes...

Posted by diatriber on Wed., Oct 26, 2005 at 11:02 AM

Scoop - it gives me absolutely no credibility whatsoever. Oh wait time to go listen to Al Franken. Oh that's right he can't even get on the air in this town. Why is that? We have a conservative talk radio station though. Why do you all think that is in such a liberal town?
Dude - thanks for bringing up religion as the libs always do and shoving it in my face - abortion: WWJD - could you ask JC the next time you speak to him how happy he was about all the babies aborted today. You have to admire a political party however that enjoys defending to the death aborting its future voters. Hopefully Democrats will be extinct one day.

Posted by Carol on Wed., Oct 26, 2005 at 11:22 AM

Dear hatefull moron (Carol),

I just talked to JC again, boy is he pissed at you now. He is sick and tired of people hiding behind and blaming their goverment for their own short comings. He brought up the point that the people who choose an abortion must answer to him not you. It is their soul not yours. He is also mad that you and your pals have done NOTHING to help the poor, NOTHING to help the suffering NOTHING to help the least of his people. Over 85% of abortions are poor people of highschool education or less. These same people are the people that you deny healthcare to, you deny a chance for an education and you deny a chance for hope. Unless you plan on paying for these women's prenatal care and adopting all of these unwanted children as well as helping these women keep their jobs while pregnant or after they have their children then JC wants you to keep your mouth shut. Instead of working toward the kingdom of God here on earth all you do is criticize others to make yourself look better for the kingdom you think you will reach in the end. You obviously have no idea what Jesus taught. He would never be associated with people like you and he never will. You want to play the philosphy game then lets play. Sweetheart you had better come at me with more than a bunch of Protestant crap. There is more to religion than the Bible and much more than some nut job preacher yells at you on Sundays. Until you get over yourself you will never understand and you will continue your work for your own demise.
Good luck.

Carol, I like you, it's everyone else that thinks you're an asshole.

Posted by dude on Wed., Oct 26, 2005 at 12:20 PM

This is better than the "Current Affairs" forum on StL(communist)Today.com!

Keep posting Carol - you really represent your party well...

Posted by diatriber on Wed., Oct 26, 2005 at 12:20 PM

Wow! I really don't know what to say. What the hell has been going on here. Sounds like to me Carol is having a little bit of a personal political crisis. Her president has become one of the weakest presidents in US history, Katrina, the War, pending indictments, and he even stabbed poor carol in the back with two abortion neutral supreme court nominees. I feel for ya sister. I really do. I am sure that you are fed up and just can't take it any more, so you decided to stand up to us liberal hordes that control your city, and start fightin' for the cause.

I see what's up here, you go girl, I admire those who have the courage to fight for what they believe in.

Also, dude, not familiar with you on this site, but i dig your posts, well said.

Posted by The Southsider on Wed., Oct 26, 2005 at 1:42 PM

Wow, the welcoming Christian warmth from all of you who tell hateful people like me to love and care about my neighbor has really been nice. Thanks I appreciate your being able to discuss without namecalling. Boy was I wrong. I thought liberals were non-judgemental with a spirit of peace and love. So for your all's mental sake, I hope Hillary wins in '08 It sounds like your all ready to go off the deep end. My guy's in deep sh...t and I'm doing okay. You all are so much less aggressive when your guy (gal) is in the White House. So from the bottom of my evil little heart I honestly wish you good luck in 2008! But in the mean time, drink a few cold ones, okay!

Posted by Carol on Wed., Oct 26, 2005 at 2:01 PM

Carol, I'm actually trying to be helpful here, when I say it doesn't seem like you're getting much love on this "lib" blog. So, while we appreciate the chance to discuss the issues with you, there's a conservative site deovted to commenting about the media in St. Louis at www.stlmedia.net/. I'm sure Mike Anderson and his followers would love to have you join their group. I think you'll find the message boards there right up your conservative alley.

And for any of my fellow "libs" it won't hurt to check out that site and join in to give some balance to the right slant going on over there.

Posted by Scoop on Wed., Oct 26, 2005 at 3:13 PM

Scoop - I appreciate your attempt to get rid of me, but I prefer to discuss issues with both sides. Unlike libs, I don't feel the need to have my opinions validated by everyone. However, I will say this. I have many friends that go from far left to "just hating Bush" (not sure how they vote when Bush is not the candidate. They truly are some of my favorite people. Just the nicest ever. I disagree with Bush and the Republicans on so many things that I was beginning to wonder if I wasn't really a closet Democrat. That is why I often wonder off the reservation, like reading the Post for example. However, after hearing from people like Dude, I would be embarrassed to be in a politcal party with someone as insane as he is. No wonder they say liberalism is a mental disorder. I wasn't so sure about that comment, but now I think I understand it. Perhaps you all might consider a group therapy session to get you through the next 3 years. You are all the most antagonistic and mean-spirited bunch I have ever encountered.

Posted by Carol on Wed., Oct 26, 2005 at 3:25 PM

Carol,
I'm insane? Thanks for taking the highroad. Apparently you have realized you are wrong and it just takes awhile to accept your past misdeeds. It's called a recovering Republican and that transition to a passionate, compassionate, open minded person is a tough one. Good luck to you, I hope you will be able to complete your awakening. Even if you do not sign up for the Dem party I truly hope you become an independant voter. Indy's can make or break elections and are therefore the most important voters out there.

Posted by dude on Wed., Oct 26, 2005 at 3:47 PM

Just thought I'd try traveling the same road as you. I can see you don't like it when you are on the other end of it. Now that you know that I am a centrist you are going to allow me to vote?

Posted by Carol on Wed., Oct 26, 2005 at 3:59 PM

I will but if your a black person in the city the Republicans may try to stop you.

Posted by dude on Wed., Oct 26, 2005 at 4:42 PM

Guys, I think we have miscategorized Carol, while she is a knuckledragging R-word. She suffers from a drastic case of last wordism!!!!
