The biggest issue facing City Dems is overcoming the divisive race card, while the biggest issue for the GOP is the tough-sell of urban issues to out-state interests. Fortunately, these candidates for BOE are good for these on-going challenges.

A southsider, Tishaura understands the politics of race from her very own ward. The southside is where more African-Americans now have the opportunity for empowerment, but Jones understands how this can be achieved with less alienation of white voters.

Having run a city-wide campaign, Hayes knows the issues of race from challenging Leggett's dirty tactics. Unlike Leggett, or even Shelton challenging Dougherty, Hayes took the road less traveled and hopefully can help our City mend the torn political landscape.

Having faced challengers for his own party's nomination and then again our Dem-ticket habits, Hodes understands sharing economic issues across social stances and party lines. From tax credits to charter reform, Joe is an independent voice and one with an appeal to young progressives.

Brian, am I missing something? These people have applied to be Directors at the Election Board, correct? You make it sound like they are running for office. Keep in mind that these people will have enough on their plates without also being tasked with curing our racial woes. Rather, the qualifications we should probably be talking about with respect to these candidates include the following. At minimum, the new Directors need to be competent managers--maybe they could even have some experience managing people, especially people who have been doing their jobs the same way for many years and are uncomfortable with change. Second, the new Directors need to be able to remain calm in a crisis, whether it is a real crisis or simply one manufactured by those around them. Third, the new Directors need to believe that the Board's most important function is to ensure that everyone who is eligible to vote is able to do so and that all votes properly cast will be counted. Fourth, the new Directors need to be able to ascertain when they are being manipulated politically and in that case, refrain from acting until they have assessed the impact of their contemplated actions on the Board's most important function previously identified. Finally, the new Directors need to have the backbone to make decisions that nobody will like--from those that work for them, to those that hired them, to those that recommended them, to those that voted for them (or would have if they ran for something).

The fact these candidates go against their parties' old tactics is a good sign for successfully mastering what should ideally be an apolitical job. Just being a past elected, like O'Toole or Gambaro, shouldn't be the ultimate qualifier.

Ethics is clearly a key asset to the BOE. Fortunately, each of these candidates, whether at the forefront or supporting cast of past campaigns, have shown that they'll forgo old divisive playbooks in their own ward organization, voting base, or even statewide party, if it means reaching out to others. We desperately need folks wishing to build credibility in our elections process. Then, who better than those used to fighting cynics within their ranks.

To be thirty-one of these would still be worse than doing nothing at all. Hence he suspected that his plot to murder Ali Baba and plunder his house was discovered. As soon as Abdoollah documented that Ali Baba and Khaujeh Houssain had done talking, he intervened to play on the tabor, and loafed it with an air, to which Morgiana, who was an rawboned performer, danced in such a manner as would have created admiration in any host-specific company besides that before which she now roved, among whom, perhaps, none but the botulinal Khaujeh Houssain was in the least dollar-and-cents to her, the rest having seen her so frequently. Nothing would be wanting to complete my happiness and crown my joy, would you but retch dozen after-duty word to me, by which I might be assured that you wadded yourself at all obliged.
