Latest rumors

Unconfirmed rumors from multiple sources have neither Rachel Storch nor Fred Kratky interested in running for the 4th Senate seat. Both largely for personal rather than political reasons. That primary is one year away. More later.

Meanwhile 10th ward committeeman John Paul Frisella filed to raise money for the 65th, apparently in case Kratky does jump into the 4th race. Frisella would never challenge Kratky for the Rep seat; he is clearly marking his place in line for 2010 when Kratky is termed out.

But Rachel already formed a committee. This is a little confusing. I guess it means that Rachel, for personal reasons has decided against continuing her campaign for the 4th Senate. Rachel is a superstar and I hope she decides to run for reelection to the House. We need her.

I really like what Rachel has done for progressives so far and respect her decision. I look forward to a powerful Smith/Storch force in the Missouri Legislature very soon.

If true, Jeff at this point would only face two northside challengers. Hopefully, some other southside conservative Dem then won't take Kratky's place. Greg Daly? Favazza? Heck, Bauer may be looking for a new political post soon. Not that any of these nut-jobs have a chance. But they could spoil Jeff's hopes of appealing to southside moderates, just enough to still lose to a northside now looking to be split.

Still, liberals about Forest Park and Tower Grove make Jeff a pretty hard candidate to beat, even if only one northside primary challenger comes through. Rachel remains the only real threat to Jeff since sharing a voting base within her state house district.

Greg Daly is not a nut-job.

Hey Brian how about you try not to bash good folks like Mr. Daly.
Just because you do not know much about politics does not mean you need to smear some one you know nothing about. Daly has done more good things for the people of St. Louis than you could ever dream of doing.

Sorry, only the guys with donkeys or powerbelts are really nutty. GFXD is quite smart, having riden several coattails. But while not nutty, I don't think our License Collector would put in the time and effort needed to win a truly competitive race like this.

When did Daly move out of the Senate's 1st District?

Posted by Howard on Thu., Aug 4, 2005 at 6:16 PM

You're right, GFXD still lives in Boulevard Heights, in the 1st State Senate District. I just forgot how much of Southwest City is still split between the 4th and the 1st. Should have remembered though, especially given how far inside the City Harry Kennedy lives.

Why would Belt of Power give up a high paying position (circuit clerk) to run for low paying position (state senator)?

Clerk and state senate seat are on same ballot in 2006. Favazza can't run for both.

If judges have the votes in next legislative session to turn circuit clerk into appointed position, still doesn't affect circuit clerk election in 2006, legislation wouldn't kick in for four years.

From what I hear, Rachel Storch's Mother is very ill, which is a large factor in her course of action. I wish her the best during this trying time of family hardship.
