NSOs to go?
There's a Board of Alderman Ways and Means Committee meeting tomorrow morning at 9 am at City Hall. During the meeting, they will be discussing the public safety budget, which means MAY discuss moving the Neighborhood Stabilzation Team from the public safety budget to another budget - like the aldermanic budget.
Should the Neighborhood Stabilization Team should stay civil servants and be assigned by neighborhood rather than by aldermen?
If folks want to speak at the meeting, they can either contact the chair, Steve Conway, ahead of time and request to speak. Or they can attend the meeting and sign up to speak.
funny, i talked to a few alderpersons who denied this was going to happen and painted the three candidates who held a city hall press conference on the matter - patterson, burchfield and hardin - as malcontent conspiracy nuts. that made me think that there plans were indeed real...

I've been asking the question for months now what is the roll of the Management Assistant Program(MAP) that is currently acting as nuisance coordinator and reporting directly to the alderman. Where is the funds coming from to pay the salaries,what type of training do they have & how were they selected? We are for the neighborhood Stablization Officers!!
Posted by H Lee on Tue., May 17, 2005 at 4:54 PMIn my experience, the NSO in my neighborhood has been unresponsive and mostly unavailable. In my discussions with friends who live in the City who have had to deal with NSO's, with a few glaring exceptions, they have been all foam and no beer - if you can find them. A few have really taken their jobs seriously and done the best they could, but they are the exception rather than the rule. We have had better results with the MAP people than with the NSO's where I live. Thanks to the people who put that program in place.

I have always been happy with the service of my NSO and don't understand the need for MAP. The only reason the alderman should want nso's is that they are under the mayors office and are productive. I don't think we should support alderman assistants!
