Richard Byrd has Died

Shocking news.

Kirkwood State Representative Richard Byrd has died. He was a leader for the Republicans, champion for this session's tort reform.

I tangled with him last year, but I thought it was classy that despite our past disagreement, he emailed congratulations to me last month when my daughter was born.

Byrd was 46.

Richard Byrd was progressive for a Republican. He was classy, and he will be missed.

He had the guts to push through increases in bankruptcy and execution exemptions for people down on their luck. When some in his party challenged the non-partisan court system-he as chairman of the judiciary committee let it be know that he would sit on the bill to amend the constitution.

I think we're all still in shock.

FYI Dave, he spoke well of you and I know he was a big fan of your website despite your ideological differences.

We will miss him.

He also stopped Selby's attempt to end auto emission testing. While testing isn't perfect, he pointed out the consequences were serious--it's horrible news. He'll be missed.
