Alternative Police Board Guess

From a veteran city politico:

My take is that it will be a 3-2 vote, with Slay and Saracino voting no. Accomplish's everything. POA gets a victory, the Governor tells the legislature to back off, and Slay holds his position.

Just a guess, but it sounds like the right play to me.

Wouldn't you think this issue would draw more discussion?

You don't think the relaxing of the residency requirement is the first step in a consolidation of city-county services, or even a possible merger?

Don't take Colonel Freeman's vote for granted. She's her own person and unless someone has gotten to her on residency, she may vote no. Slay shouldn't be allowed to reap the benefits of a change in the residency rule by taking the easy way out and voting no; if he wants a change, he better step up to the plate and not let someone else do his heavy lifting.

I do not believe that anyone wants this to happen, including the mayor, but SLPOA is very much for this, they have had a Republican lobbyist in Jefferson City for at least the past two years now and Republicans are more than happy to oblige them, given that they can cause problems in Democratic territory. This is an un-popular issue in the city. City residents are against this by a 2 to 1 margin, but the political reality is that the Republicans in Jeff are forcing this on us to make one of the most popular and powerful democrats in the state look bad. It is politically much smarter to take this issue on ourselves and make it a decent compromise than get bullied by the likes of Drunk driving Chuck Portwood and Little Boy Blunt
