In the 25th ward, Dorothy Kirner unveils her web-site.
This website is a sure sign that Dorothy smells trouble and is feeling the pressure that Steve Patterson is putting on her. I do not know from first hand experience, but word on the street is she is horrible at responding to resident concerns, which is quite the opposite from the image her page displays.
Posted by J.D. on Tue., Feb 15, 2005 at 1:24 PMWhile we were flyering for Steve Patterson last weekend, Dororthy was driving in circles around the ward looking quite distraught about all the volunteers Steve had going door to door for him.
Word on the street is that Dorothy didn't ask before planting signs in people's front yards. Many of the people with Kirner signs are actually voting for Steve.
The domain name for Dorothy's site was registered by Lou Hamilton of Vigilant Communications.

Posted by diatriber on Tue., Feb 15, 2005 at 2:51 PMOn her web site, Kirner claims "Voters in the ward elected Dorothy last June, by an overwhelming majority, to be our Alderman." That's kind of true, but not really. In the June special election, she got 363 votes out of 5,827 registered voters -- not exactly an overwhelming show of support. (Her opponent, Republican Francis Wildhaber, got 93 votes.)
Also, I think it's funny that Dorothy has a web site, but no email address. Steve Patterson is definitely more accessible. He's glued to his cellphone and email.
Posted by Brian Marston on Wed., Feb 16, 2005 at 10:26 AMIt is unbelievably obvious that she was forced into doing this because of Steve. Way to go, Man! The publicity photos are so contrived as to be laughable. Let's dress up a little boy in inline skates and attire and put him out in the middle of WET asphalt(all by himself no less)to show how well this "ammenity" is being used. What a joke! I wonder if that was her grandson. I hope that these photos do as much for her as the tank photo did for Dukakis.
It also says that she "drives around the ward daily." I would like to see her get her ass out of the car and WALK the ward. You just can't get a real handle on problems from an automobile. She also reminds you that she is catholic. Which is pretty much to say,"do your duty as a catholic and vote for me." I find that kind of manipulation completely tasteless.
On her site there is so little information about her stands on issues or her plans for the ward and the city. At least Steve has the guts to allow comments from anyone to be posted on his site. Also, her site directs you to other city agencies for help but then has the gall to ask you for help and a donation. Puh-leeze!
Lesson #1: You can't beat Steve at his own game!!
Posted by in the ward on Wed., Feb 16, 2005 at 1:20 PMApparently she does have a campaign email - dorothy@aldermankirner.com. It's a mailto link from her Contact page.
Also, the page titles (in your browser title bar) and the file names are totally non-sensical, which suggests it was thrown up in FrontPage. The HTML code is likewise crap - it may have even come directly from MS Word.
Most of the content is just links into the City web site - and the ward map is copied and pasted directly from the City web site with no attribution. It even has the same typos! I should know - I put those ward maps and the "Good Neighbor Guide" online on the City web site several years back. (But the typos in the ward maps were not my doing!)
Posted by Joe Frank on Fri., Feb 18, 2005 at 2:12 PMAnd web sites don't do much in terms of votes--they are great for volunteers, but they don't turn many undecideds so while it's funny that Firefox doesn't work, it's funny, not a sign of gross incompetence. The notion that she's worried about Steve's canvassers and the yard signs is a really good sign though.
Posted by ArchPundit on Tue., Feb 22, 2005 at 12:04 PMOk, so I'm trying to look at Kirner's site, and it's still spinning- what the heck is wrong with it's loading time? Geez. It's been like 4 minutes now.
I went to the debate- she was horrible. ANyone that votes for her is basically clueless. She should know better herself that she's not up to the task. I really hope Steve gets this one.
Well, from what I've heard, since I still can't see it myself, is that the website looks like a pretty desperate attempt to catch up with Steve. Apparently she's even wearing the same clothes in all the photos- yikes.
