Another reason for charter reform

Parking Fines = $30
Additional Penalties = $130
We have your car and we can charge you whatever we want = $180

Total cash outlay before Noon = $340

Charter reform/change has nothing to do with the issue of parking fines.

The change in parking fines was done through policy change and the legislative process. Charter change? Try again.

I need to remedy my anger by voting someone out of office! But who? This system lacks accountability.

Welcome to our world. Our parking fiasco cost 400 bean. You got off easy. But we are not alone. If you are up for it we could organize people screwed by the new parking policy and start a campaign against it. I have several neighbors ready to join. Of course that would mean trying to figure out who really is in charge of this disaster. And it assumes our cars are not hauled off in the process.

This happened to us too. Cherokee stolen, wound up in tow lot since the police said that they tried to contact us when they found the vehicle (yeah right). Found out it was cheaper to sign the vehicle over to them than pay the fee since the theives tore the car up and broke the steering column.

just pay your tickets or, better yet, feed the meter.

Elaine-- It's not that simple. We are people who feed the meter but we don't always make it back on time. And when we get tickets, we pay them. This policy is beyond that; it fines people without their knowledge, without invoicing them, and then penalizes them by booting and/or towing their car. If you get a ticket, you receive a letter shortly thereafter warning of late fines. But you never know if those fines are incurred or not until your car is gone. There is also no recourse if you do not believe you incurred late fines -- it is their word against yours if you are "late".

$180 cash to release my car after I'd paid all my fines was ridiculous. There's no way to justify it. It's ransom without recourse.

It's too bad that many of these people who complain about parking tickets never read the paper or watch tv or listen to the radio. The system/program has been in effect for several months and been highly publicized. If you pay your tickets on time you don't get booted or towed and don't incur late fees. Had you bothered to read the articles or listen to the news you would know that there are approx. 9,000,000 in outstandings fines by people who don't pay their tickets out of disrespect or laziness.
