More screw-ups at the Board of Elections

On a tip from the Oracle:

Although absentee in-person is supposed to begin today (six weeks before the election), not in the city. The ballots aren't there!

Down at the Board of Elections, workers don't have any answers. Why aren't the ballots there? When will they be in? No answers.

I've left messages. I'll let you know when I know.

This year, to save money, the Board of Election Commissioners is having the ballots printed up by Multigraph, the graphics/printing department of the Supply Division at City Hall. The ballots used to be produced by an outside contractor (at one point it was Pelican Printing, a minority-owned company in Midtown, but more recently I'm not sure).

Multigraph has a lot of other duties, and the ballot production is a massive task, so there's a pretty steep learning curve. They did it in August ok, but the November task is even bigger. So I'm not surprised by the delay. However, I hope they get it taken care of soon - I need to vote absentee since I'll be on my honeymoon on election day this year!
