Press Release to Arch City Chronicle on Mark Smith for Congress
Mark Smith has bought the most air time of any of the candidates running for the third district race. Mark is for three major institutions. He wants to fight health care, not other candidates. He wants to help the economy, and get people jobs, and get them back to working enough hours so that they can support their families again. Mark is not just looking for a new job himself. Mark wants to make sure that the children of the Third District get educated, and he will do whatever he can in congress to make sure that our needs are met. Mark has experience as former president of the police board, as a lawyer for a major law firm, and as a dean of the law school at Wash U Law. He can be our next congressman.
Mark is always very sneaky about things. I love how he is now the Dean of the law school. I am sure the current dean would love to hear about that exaggeration.
Is he making some sort of news in this release?
Posted by Amanda on Mon., Jul 26, 2004 at 4:29 PMSorry about the typographical error. He is A dean at the law school. We did forget the letter and word 'a'. I apologize on behalf of the campaign. Mark has never been sneaky about anything. This was an honest mistake.
Posted by Vanessa on Mon., Jul 26, 2004 at 4:32 PMis there a point to this release?
Would Dave run something on me waking up and getting coffee and toast for breakfast tomorrow? :)
Posted by Rich on Mon., Jul 26, 2004 at 4:51 PMExactly. Not impressed by the "news" in this release. Mark maintains his rating as my third pick in this race. G'luck.
Posted by Zerrat on Mon., Jul 26, 2004 at 5:00 PMExactly what does Mark have against healthcare and why does he want to fight it?

Posted by ArchPundit on Tue., Jul 27, 2004 at 1:22 AMfairly major coup as he gets the STL Post endorsement. Russ' house of cards is beginging to fall...
Posted by Rich on Tue., Jul 27, 2004 at 8:15 AMAgreed on Russ's "house of cards" but I think the big winner here is likely to be Jeff Smith. This was hardly an overwhelming endorsement for Mark and many of Russ's supporters are troubled by Mark's flip flops on Abortion. Russ's voters are all falling to Jeff at this point.
Jeff would have really been in the driver seat if he had won the endorsement outright. Either way I hardly see Mark Smith slowing him down at all. Among those who claim to be pro-choice I see this race as:
Jeff Smith
Russ Carnahan
Mark Smith (Is he pro-choice or pro-life?)
The real winner here could be Steve Stoll. My guess is that Jeff is now ahead of Russ and adding votes each day. The key for Jeff will be to consolidate enough Russ votes and perhaps any of Mark's that are worried about the abortion flip/flop to beat out Stoll's pro-life/gun etc. vote in Jefferson County.
Somebody mentioned the call's that Russ's people were making claiming that Jeff is pro-life. I have been hearing about that as well. A few week's ago they were calling him Ralph Nader. I am guessing that they are getting pretty desperate at Carnahan HQ. Funny, how I received a Jeff Smith Pro Choice mailer today. Jeff is the most solid pro-choice candidate in the race at this point. I would look for Carnahan to throw everything, including the kitchen sink at Jeff over the next week. Jeff's support is so passionate that he should be able to absorb it but it will be a test for Jeff, his supporters and the St. Louis electorate.
In my experience this usually backfires on someone like Russ. This may lead to Jeff defeating Russ by a much larger margin than anyone expects. He will need it to ensure that he beats out Barry and Stoll. That being said, I still think Jeff wins it next Tuesday.
