He's really in step with most of the Democrats nationally: Opposed to "Gay Marriage," for "Civil Unions" as well as Federal Hate Crimes Legislation and ENDA and the Permanent Parntner Immigration Act. All in all not a bad record.
Posted by Kurt on Fri., Jul 23, 2004 at 1:50 AMreading drebes column a week or so ago in the biz journal, it would seem that PROMO has decided to take a relatively conservative role in the amendment 2 debate--as a constitutional issue and not an issue of civil rights. PROMO is not a "gay or lesbian" organization per se, but their stance is at least understandable--in a conservative state where most democrats in the house and senate voted for the initial marriage ban and many liberals also toe that line--"I'm against gay marriage but in favor of civil unions." It seems to me that in such a situation is as much up to the heteroes--"straight but not narrow"--to point out that denying marriage to gays and lesbians is discriminations.
