In response to Mr. Frank’s commentary, press releases from the Comptroller’s Office are intended to inform the public about issues involving the Comptroller and of interest to the taxpayers she represents.

For instance, the topics Mr. Frank identified (Kiel Opera House, downtown casino, Lambert Airport) are all related specifically to the Comptroller’s duties as prescribed in the city charter. They are also important to the city’s economy, and therefore, the taxpayers.

At no time in the past, present or future is information from the Comptroller’s Office released in response to the Mayor’s Office as Mr. Frank asserts. In fact, all three press releases identified by Mr. Frank were written and released in response to local media inquiries.

The bottom line is the local media has always sought comment from the Comptroller on the issues Mr. Frank highlighted (and many others) and the city’s taxpayers continue to be interested in those comments.
